What have you done to your F Type today?

Nice!

How do they feel?
Was it easy to swap them over?

Initial thoughts after 1 day are that the shift action feels more tactile than the bronze ones and the *click* is more audible which adds to the feeling. Also like that they're slightly cooler to the touch than the plastic ones. They're also taller than the plastic ones and it makes it easier (and a bit more fun to shift) from a higher position.

However, it's no Ferrari paddle and there's still a bit of a plastic *click* rather than a metallic *tink* presumably because the base that the paddle is mounted on that holds the screw hole & wiring is still a plastic cover.

Fitting is pretty straightforward. Should be a 10 min job although it took me 30 because I was being lazy and kept the steering wheel in the straight-ahead, neutral position.

I'd recommend using a ratchet tool because you'll need a bit of leverage to unscrew the screws. I purchased this Bosch kit from amazon during the prime day sales and it did the job perfectly: https://amzn.eu/d/0c0YdKKr

Picked up the paddles for £150 on ebay with a discount code but you should find pairs listed as New for £170 - £200. I believe the price that Jaguar would sell this at is around £400! I would be feeling ripped off at that price but at £150-200 I'd say it's a worthy upgrade.

Hope that helps!

That's great, thanks for all the info.

Might have to keep my eyes peeled for a deal on some paddles and do this myself.

No probs. If you order off ebay, just do a thorough inspection of the paddles that you receive.

The first pair I received were listed as "New" but upon closer inspection, I saw score marks on both paddles, and the upshift paddle had a section where the metal had abrasion and was worn down.

Thankfully there were no issues getting those ones refunded.

Finally completed the Meridian speaker upgrade last night - I was waiting for one last speaker to arrive off eBay. With sound deadening there is a definite improvement, although the sound system is still nowhere near as good as my Tesla Model Y which is the best in car audio I have ever had. I think if you are a convertible owner and spend a lot of time with the roof down (I do) I am not sure it is really worth it.....

If you use the paddles a lot upgrading them to aluminium ones is a brilliant little mod. I have a set of custom made ones similar to the OEM ones since quite a few years and this is my third Jag that I've fitted them to.

The black plastic and copper painted ones feel really crap but there's actually a newer metal covered OEM plastic version that I think feels almost as good as proper aluminium ones. My F-Type came with such paddles and the metal cover is so thick that they almost feel like solid metal ones. The main thing is that they're as small as the usual plastic ones.

If you want to change the shift feel further you can also play around with stiffer springs. The chap who made my paddles also provided stiffer springs but I found them a bit too stiff so am using the usual springs.

This is useful to know, thanks.
I'll have a little look and see what I can find.

I do like using the paddles, but the plastic ones don't feel the best.

I washed her, polished her - drove her to Dunbar and cracked the passenger side skirt on a slightly raised entrance to a drive way. :(
Now I'm crying at the overly complex process of side-skirt removal which according to other forums requires:

  • A Hairdryer
  • A Panel prise tool
  • The removal of the kickplate
  • The removal of both the front and rear sidewall covers
  • The removal of some 8-10 odd bolts/pops
  • And "only approx 1hr of labour" - yeah right!
Fun - unless someone has already done this process and has a more straight-forward approach :)

Oh we’ve had some fun this weekend, drove from West Sussex down to the Donkey sanctuary near Sidmouth in Devon. We thought we’d look out for other F types on the way, ~ not one sighted in over a 160 miles, ( rare as hens teeth maybe?)
However on the way back we saw 7, all convertibles and in and around the New forest area. Our cars still turn heads, people point and stare in wonderment.
Every drive is special, every time 😊IMG_3980.jpegIMG_1287.jpegView attachment 1

Printed off a panel gap gauge from 1.0 to 8.0mm so I can adjust the gaps on mine when I have some time and patience. Available in any colour you want as long as it's orange or black ;)

Went to Sherborne castle car show. Where else can you find a £2m Aston Martin Valkyrie parked in the same bit of field 😁.

And being road legal, it didn't have a problem driving across the field to get onto the tarmac for a parade around the castle grounds (probably why it's called a splitter 😉).

Seems like the prices finally have come down to more reasonable levels. One of the reasons to why I got my custom made ones 8 years ago was that the JLR ones were so ridiculously priced at something like 300 quid.

Having my F-Type undersealed by JR Classics in Doncaster at the moment. Staying in Doncaster hotel while works being undertaken - 3 to 4 days work. Missing it already! Will upload pictures of work when I get it back.

Today, I bought my F-Type.

Followed by a drive from Guildford to Yorkshire.

Happy boy.

Congratulations! More details and pics please!

Photos to come tomorrow.

Details:

MY19 Caldera Red P340 (3.0 V6) RWD Coupe (no sun roof).

Aside from how it drives, it may be the prettiest thing I've ever brought.

I would be relatively happy to just sit in a chair and oggle it.

(Also, I wouldn't recommend driving Guildford to Yorkshire - constant roadworks and traffic. Up on to the moors tomorrow to really try it out)

Weather is decent so enjoy it! I bought mine on Boxing Day and had wait about 3 months to get a real feel of the car's capabilities.

It might be a bit far for you but Snake Pass is (A628) a brilliant road then up to Holme Moss and into Meltham, Huddersfield. I do this route a few times per month on the way home.
