What have you done to your F Type today?

A day late but who cares!
Met up with a pal on here for a drive down through the Cotswolds. Stopped for a bit of lunch at the Cotswold Barn near Moreton in the Marsh which is a great venue for car enthusiasts and drove back. A great day!

Visible VINs are on almost all cars. It’s to help the authorities who can use it to look up a cars identity quickly if stolen or otherwise with no or false plates.
Previously was tough to find them under bits of flaps of carpet, etc.
Also hard to hide or alter when in the windscreen vs easy to grind off on a box member.
I see no point in hiding it.

Fitted the new battery to my TCU. Surprisingly easy, if a little fiddly. The panel between the seats comes out easily enough, just pull away at the top on each side and lift it off the two posts at the bottom. The battery is held in with a battery shaped plastic cover, held in by a screw at the bottom. It took me a while to realise it was a T10 Torx, and I carefully removed it so as not to drop it! The battery cover comes out by easing it out from the bottom where the screw was (it clips in at the top). Removed the old battery (squeeze the connector to release it) and fitted the new one, that's the fiddly bit - aligning the plug! Put everything back and ran the car. It's too early to tell if the connectivity issues are fixed as there have been problems with the app - there's a new version available, now up to 2.18.7.

Old battery is dated 180507 (the TCU was replaced when I bought the car in 2018), new one 240306 (implied "20" at the start).

Will keep you posted.

Service, MOT & brakes all round Ouch! Needs new engine mounts & relay in the stop/start. Thank god for extended warranty!

I gave the car a wash and added some bling to the rear deflector.

New brakes and engine mounts after 5 years? That 4-pot must be powerful! ;)

How many miles?

First 4 cylinder quad exhaust P450 I’ve seen
.
Still engine mounts at 5 years isn’t good

Haven't seen a lot of cases with F-Type engine mount issues but just recently saw someone else online with a P300 needing new engine mounts with very few miles on the car. What could cause these engine mounts to go bad?

Take your pick from oil contamination which weakens them, aggressive driving ( harsh gear changes, acceleration, downshifting), or eventually just time.

I refer you to ianp's signature .... ;)

Wow, I did not expect so much reaction to my post. But, the mileage is 41k and the term engine mounts may be clumsy. Specifically, I was advised that the devices (mounts) that stop engine vibration needed attention as the vacuum had leaked. Doesn't make sense to me as I do not know how they should be described.

Treated the leather to a coat of this great stuff. Used to use Dr Leather wipes for years in the past but haven't looked back since I switched to this.

Then took it out for a proper Italian tuneup, in naked boot maximised exhaust noise mode. It really makes quite a difference to the in cabin exhaust noise to run it like this without all the trim pieces and covers.

Got a small upgrade ....

dyno-sheet.jpg

Although Jaguar market the P450 as having 450ps power output, mine was putting out 500hp and this appears to be fairly common. With the remap loaded in, the dyno showed a healthy upgrade to 624hp and 611ft/lb of torque. I would love to tell you how this all feels but it was chucking it down with rain for the whole 100+ mile drive home and my tyres are not that far away from needing replacing, so discretion got the better of me. The one 'squirt' I did perform, on the only bit of dry road I did encounter, was 'eye opening'.

Very nice! Do you have RWD or AWD?

Mine is RWD :)

Replaced a cracked coolant expansion tank. It was only leaking when engine was hot and tank pressurized, it had a hairline crack on engine side. A new tank costed me about 120£, plus 1 liter of coolant that was lost. Still not sure what is the correct overpressure for the tank cap, the new one came with 140 kPa but I've seen photos from members with 200 kPa.

Swapped out my bronze paddle shifters for a set of aluminium ones.

Was worried about them looking odd in contrast to the bronze starter button, but I think it looks better like this!
