What have you done to your F Type today?

Took a proper test drive after the sound insulation mods and am really happy about the results. Feels like the sound system can perform at its full potential now, as long as you fade out those useless rear subwoofers. If you just do this kind of mod and set up the sound correctly I think it sounds great for a semi noisy car cabin. Gets even better if you play your music through an additional interface like the UAD one I have or one like the android unit above, which has its own equalizer. That said I can't quite see what some owners are moaning about regarding the sound. Had exactly the same system in my last much quieter XF and thought it was really good there too, after some minor door car mods.

Then also got rid of an odd little occasional buzz that was there since day one. At full chat in the higher rev range I got a slight buzz in my driver side B pillar. It really only appeared in such driving situations so it didn't bother me and I didn't bother asking the dealer to fix it under warranty fearing that they would mess more things up. Finally took a closer look at it by tapping on the thin interior B pillar trim at the front edge of the triangular rear window, poked around under the rubber seals there and found it. The lower front bolt for the small window wasn't fully tightened and there was a loose washer between it and the body. Bolt tightened and Bob's your uncle.

Getting rid of squeaks is really satisfying. I've been trying to get to the root cause of a squeak that happened when going around bends at speed. Did the whole tapping thing and could not get to where it was coming from. On Friday, I was messing around with the unnecessarily heavy parcel shelf (aka luggage screen) and there it was! The squeak was coming from the edges of the shelf when resting on the plastic trim. A couple of felt tape pieces applied to the trim where the shelf sits and voilà! I can now go back to pushing the car around corners without that annoying noise 🙌🏻

Yes that parcel shelf and the plastic pins it rests on is known to cause issues in some cars. Mine's fortunately completely silent.

The parcel shelf usually stays home when I go to push some corners. And stage two when I'm going for a proper Italian tuneup and really want some more exhaust noise is to remove the parcel shelf and strip the boot floor by removing the boot floor board, battery cover and lower compartment box thingy.

Drive to High Wycombe this morning (44mpg in the 50 limit) and back to Fleet for a valet. Looking like it just came out the showroom again :D

Waved at someone in a grey F-Type coupe along the high street. Anyone from in here ?

Fixed the crappy rubber fuel cap lead with a small drill and the platted cord from a freebie sunglasses bag

Cut to correct length, melted ends with a flame to stop fraying. Cut the broken rubber one off. Drilled a small hole in both parts and superglued the cord in.

Well done! Used a similar method to fix the left side hanging loop of my parcel shelf. #RepairDontWaste 😉

Glorious weather today so decided to take the day off for an early morning run out to some of my favourite French mountain roads. Some proper mountain road carving done this morning before the cyclists and camper vans came out. :) The kind of drives the F-Type was built for and the kind of drives that make you think - what a machine!

This time even more enjoyable than before, after the recent carplay installation and audio improvements. :D

Wish I could wake up and decide to take the day off 😂

Sounds like you're living your best life and the F-Type looks beautiful 👌🏻

Covered the VIN display in the windshield. Just doesn't seem like a good idea to publicly display the VIN of the car even though mine never sees any unsafe places. I never got why JLR does this on their cars.

Had a spare piece of rubber mat which I previously also used for added insulation around the engine cover, cut a suitable piece of it and slid it in between the dash and windscreen. It's large enough to easily be poked out of the way with a card or piece of paper.

Not sure about other places, but in the UK I'd say most cars have the VIN displayed on the windscreen now. The F-Type has it, my BMW has it, the wifes VW and I'm pretty sure my last couple cars did as well.

Many have it here too, but many also don't have it. For instance a BMW in the family does not have it... the little window is there but no VIN is shown. I think it's a US market thing. To me it's just odd to have it on display there. A bit like wearing a t-shirt with your social security number on all the time.

It's very easy to find the VIN number of any car in the UK from the comfort of your armchair so hiding it is pointless, the same as blurring out your registration in photos unless you strip out all of the metadata. Your car has its plate displayed whilst parked or driving around so any scallywag could make a note of the plate or follow you home or to work. I don't know if any of you watch This is Ashville but one of the contractors who use them had his Toyota Hilux stolen; he filled up with fuel, key code was grabbed whilst filling up, followed him home and the car went missing that night

Every day is a school day, I didn't realise car privacy was that bad in the UK. I know that Sweden where anyone can look up pretty much anything about anyone online is even worse but around here nobody can find out anything with a car's registration number. The only ones who can look up details based a registration are the police.

Today I ordered myself a new red indoor cover for my baby :-). As sometimes it stands in my heated garage for longer periods and it gives me peace of mind knowing it is protected against scratches, flying pests and dust.

And I have been adjusting bonnet, doors and front bumper to get all gaps as perfect as possible. Which kept me busy for a few hours because it turned out to be a precise and difficult job. But the result is worth seeing now :-).
