Windscreen needs replacing!

So, that small chip turned into a 40cm crack across my windscreen. It doesn't affect my view when the visor's down but, isn't going to get through the MOT in a few months time.

I've just had a discussion with Autoglass and requested an original windscreen. They got back to me and it will be an additional £700+ on top of the standard excess. Apparently the standard replacement is exactly the same as the original but without the Jaguar logo.

In which case the product numbers, etc should be the same when they turn up to replace. I've tried to do a bit of research on the numbers and can find very little information or consistency.

My current windscreen is a Pilkington (was a replacement by Jaguar themselves) with code DOT 682-M1848-AS1 I know DOT 682 is a Pilkington manufacturer code and AS1 is a type of glass. It's the code M1848 that I have a query about.
Looking at other windscreen threads I noticed some have the codes M1814 and M1244 for F-type windscreens.
Would anyone know what or how I could find what the differences are between these codes. (I've emailed Pilkington and they might reply to my request)

Autoglass have just rung me back and they're proposing to fit a Fuyao windscreen. I told them I'll only know if it's acceptable when I see it.
I don't know what my original windscreen make was but, all the other 5 original pieces of glass are Fuyao!

Has anyone got a Fuyao windscreen on their car? If so could I request a picture of the information, spec, markings, etc?

Thanks

Can’t comment on that particular brand but a few years I needed a replacement screen in a BMW 5 series. Autoglass fitted a replacement but it was optically rubbish. Ok if you looked straight ahead but the edges distorted into a slight wave pattern. They fitted another which was just as bad. I then insisted on an OEM one which was perfect. It’s made me quite mindful of screen replacement. Speak to your insurers to see if they can stump up an OEM screen.

Here you go. Markings on my replacement windscreen after a stonechip received on a road trip rapidly turned into a large crack!

The Fuyao screen has been fine IMO.

P.S. a word of warning, remind the guys fitting the screen not to turn on the ignition while the sensors on the rear view mirror are disconnected. Read the full saga here:

I’ve also had a Fuyao replacement screen fitted about 8 months ago. I’ve had no issues with it, though unfortunately I only had the car for about a month before requiring the replacement so not sure how it compares to the original.

One thing I have noticed is it has a stronger blue sheen when looking at it from outside (possibly part of the IR protective coating?) than the original ever had, but once inside it’s not noticeable.

All I can find on those four number is.

A unique number for each manufacturer that identifies the manufacture technology, glass structure, shade, thickness. The first two digits represent the thickness of the glass and the last digit represents the tone of the glass.

Thanks guys.

I realise I'll probably have to go the route without the Jaguar logo. This is despite my insurer, AXA, claiming they do a, 'like for like', replacement. My arguing, like for like, would include the Jaguar logo isn't getting me anywhere.

I've since spoken with Auto WIndscreens (also approved by AXA) who fit a Pilkington which is the same make as I currently have fitted. At least the product numbers should be the same even if their Pilkington doesn't have the Jaguar logo either.

It may be nothing at the end of the day, but you know, it would have just been nicer to have the logo like all the other pieces of glass. Just not £700+ nicer!
