What have you done to your F Type today?

Drove to Conwy and back as my wife had never been to Wales, 240 miles mostly with the roof down, car ran great, the exhaust sounded evil, and I only got shouted at three times 😁

After a good wash I finally got around to applying this. Not feeling that good about the UK atm as most of us aren’t but at least these cars will always be great! 🇬🇧

Took mine to RHS Harlow Carr today.
Upon walking back to the car park we saw, from a distance, one of the same colour exiting the place, which got the wife worried that mine was being nicked.
Upon closer inspection it was a V8 current facelift model so she stopped panicking then!

I made the most of a fresh wash and wax, decent weather and a scenic drive across the North York Moors to stop and take some photos.

Brucie bonus... I also got an 'F-Type wave' from a guy in an Italian Racing Red F-Type convertible in Helmsley, which always makes my day and reminds me how special owning one of these cars is.

Not far off... the road into Goathland, just after Saltersgate. Always a favourite place to stop for the view👌

Put PPF on the side sills and skirts. going to do the front in the next few weeks.

Did you use pre-cut panels? How did you find the application process?

Took it for a 90-min drive after work around South and West Yorkshire, into the Peak District, Saddleworth finishing in Huddersfield. Stunning roads and scenery.

Took it out for another long sunset blast on some of the nicest roads around here. Then the usual post Italian tuneup procedure: parked up with the bonnet open for a good while + wiping all the fresh brake dust off the wheels.

I should be used to it by now but I keep getting struck by how much better the music sounds since I installed the UAD kit with its additional equaliser and added sound deadening to the doors.

Good to know I'm not the only one wiping brake dust off the wheels after a spirited drive 😉 I spray some rinseless wash and wipe it down. It certainly keeps my silver Centrifuge wheels and the whole care a lot more presentable between maintenance washes (also rinseless) which I do once to twice a week.

I used a pre-cut kit from Ebay seller, Aliath (Fits Jaguar F Type 2020- Side Sill Skirts Stone Chip Guard Paint Protection Film) A very top quality kit. Fitting the kit is not bad but had to be patient and check positions several times before putting on the car. I was advised to use diluted Johnson baby shampoo as others affect the PPF bonding and colour changes with age. I have just also ordered the front kit and hopefully get it fitted next week.

Great minds. ;) I'm used to it since my first Jag because they all had rather dusty pads. Thanks to the satin grey paint on the carbon blades the dust is hardly visible but I know it's there.

What do you use for the rinseless wash? Never tried it but have thought of getting something like that above all to have at hand when traveling. A mate highly recommended Meguiars Waterless Wash & Wax so I thought of trying that.

Fitted same kit from same seller 👍 I cut the panels, free hand, with craft knife once in place. Left a 5mm gap between PPF & edges. I wasn’t confident of getting the PPF folded securely over the panel edges. Like the whole of the back triangle area is now protected.

For what it cost I’m happy & will do part of the front nose at some point.

I use P&S Absolute diluted 1/256 applied with a 5L pump sprayer. I then follow up with a couple of damp microfibre towels that had been dunked in the same solution. Rinseless and waterless wash are very different products. I've been experimenting with a lot of detailing products over the last 10 years and I no longer use waterless as found rinseless a much safer and pleasant process. Watch this guide for more information.

Interesting! I was familiar with waterless wash (which I tbh always was a bit sceptical to) but not this rinseless method. I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen more about this considering that hardly anyone washes his car at home around here.

Booked in this morning for a Mod-Stock back box exchange with new stainless aftermarket valves. I’d called at the start of the week and Chris, the owner of Mod-Stock, based in Epsom, Surrey said they’d be up in the North West on Thursday (today), so my timing was perfect!

Drove up to Rochdale to garage premises that him and his team were working from for 9am. I was a little early arriving about 08:30 as I wasn’t sure how busy the traffic was going to be. The guys were just setting up and another V6S, a convertible pulled up behind me. Had the pleasure of meeting Swedish owner Martin and chatting together whilst the guys got our cars jacked up and started work.

They had already modded two V6 back boxes which were ready to exchange. All in it took about 1/2hr, which was fantastic. I was going for the modified back box and new aftermarket stainless valves. I knew my back box had been replaced by the previous owner about 5 years ago, so was still in pretty good condition. However, BOTH the valves had broken shafts/ linkages, so were not operating correctly! I had suspected this as I couldn’t hear an audible change in exhaust note with the switch in the open position. Here are the broken linkages.IMG_8442.jpegIMG_8441.jpeg Here is the modded back box before fitting with the new, aftermarket valves welded in.IMG_8435.jpeg

For those not familiar with the Mod-Stock modification, what they do is open up the box from the top side by removing a large patch. This gains access to the resonator boxes inside. They open up the resonators, which have pipes that pass through them which are full of small holes, allowing some of the exhaust gases and sound to circulate outside the pipe in the resonator box, thus creating that tuned exhaust note that the V6 is known for. The guys cut a section of the resonator pipe out and replace it with a length of exhaust pipe without the tiny holes, in effect doing a partial ‘straight pipe’ through the resonator. They experimented with exactly what length was required to give the enhanced exhaust note, but without any droning and unwanted raspiness. They have certainly mastered the correct length!

They then weld the resonator box back up and replace the ‘access hatch’ they had cut out of the top of the back box. The new, much better quality valves are welded in place of the genuine, inferior/ prone to rust and failure original valves, which they guarantee for the lifetime of your ownership.

No re-tune, nor coding is required, and the new valves work exactly as the genuine valves using the centre console switch and/ or Dynamic mode selector. With the valves closed there is no change to the original exhaust note (which will keep my neighbours off my back when I leave for work at 4am!) Here is the box ready to fit and a close up of the aftermarket replacement valves. OMG it sounds magnificent! Extra grunty sound above 3000RPM when accelerating, stronger snorts on the upshifts with higher revs and more pronounced pops and bangs on the over-run with the valves open, quiet as before with the valves shut. One happy bunny. IMG_8439.jpegIMG_8437.jpegIMG_8443.jpeg
