Very specific Check Pedestrian Protection system issue!

Hello everyone,

I need some specific help with an ongoing issue I'm experiencing with my 2018 Jaguar F-Type R 5.0.

This might be a bit long as I'll include as much detail as possible. It's been quite a journey so far! I bought the car with some front-end damage, intending to restore it for personal use. Please note, the car did not come with a bumper or any of the sensors. The damage was relatively light but had triggered the bonnet actuators.

I've since rebuilt the car using all new Jaguar parts, including all crash sensors in the bumper and new actuator airbags under the bonnet, also known as the Pedestrian Protection System. However, I'm still getting a "Check Pedestrian Protection System" message on the dashboard. While this doesn’t affect the car's drivability, I'd obviously like to get it fixed.

The car has been to Jaguar for a diagnostic, which reported a faulty wire to the left actuator. All the wiring has been checked and is in order. I'm hesitant to leave the car with Jaguar, as I suspect it could turn into a costly repair, so that's my last resort.

I've had the car diagnosed several times since, and each time the issue comes back as related to the left bonnet hinge. To my knowledge, there are no electrical components on the bonnet hinge, so could this code be pointing to something else? The crash module was also sent away to be cleared, but that didn’t resolve the issue.

If anyone could shed some light on this problem or suggest potential solutions, I’d greatly appreciate it, as I’m out of ideas.

Thank you!

Have you considered an issue with one of the connectors?
Maybe a wire or pin not fully seated or bent and not making correct connection.
Not sure if it’s possible to test from both ends of the relevant loom parts.

Hello and thanks for your reply.
I have tested all the pins to make sure there’s a circuit but nothing too in-depth.
If it was an individual sensor I’d have thought the diagnostic would have highlighted this.
Thanks

Did you fix this? I’m having a problem to do with pedestrian protection system too - https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=8661
