V8 P450 Power Loss Issue

The white cable is a transport cable I believe and should be unplugged. I would recommend taking it to a Jaguar dealer or the selling garage to rectify any faults.

Jag Assist got AA to come check and they reported the same codes as I got on Sun.

"control 6/8-speed automatic transmission HPxx Status :U2101 - Control unit: Configuration. Error Message : Calibration not performed. Historical fault.Member reports intermittent "restricted performance-gearbox fault" on dash, fault has occurred 3-4 times in 9days since car delivered and clears when switched off and restarted. Fault not present at time of check, retreived above error code along with "comms with transmition control" in engine control unit. Car is safe to drive with no other symptoms, further dealer investigation required.

Diagnostic testing may be limited in a breakdown type situation. Please ensure symptoms/suggested faults are confirmed by your chosen repairer before any suggested work is started."

I managed to get the car booked into the earliest date of 1st Apr - so still quite tight for my 30 day window.

plus one send it back and find a reliable one.

Do you think they will collect at their own expense?
It would save me the cost of a train/flight and then bus back home.

Hello,

Just thought I would provide an update to the forum as there is nothing worse than a plea for help and then not knowing the journey or endgame...

I’m continuing to experience ongoing mechanical issues with the vehicle.

A self-conducted OBD2 diagnostic scan revealed the following error codes:

  • U2101(56) – CAN data bus – ECM incorrectly programmed
  • U0028(87) – Vehicle Area Network VAN data bus A
  • B1C45(67) – Body Control Module/Gateway Module
  • U0402(00) – Transmission Control Unit

A subsequent diagnostic via a Jag Assist roadside assistance service confirmed similar codes:

  • U0402 – CAN message: Transmission control unit malfunction
  • U2101 – Control Unit: Configuration calibration not performed

Following advice from the seller dealership, the vehicle was taken to an authorised Jaguar service centre on 01/04/25. Their diagnostic identified P245F-2A. See inspection notes.
Interestingly – this shows as “Diesel” Particulate Filter on other OBD scanners and web-searches…

The service team advised that further investigation is required, which will probably involve stripping down the engine to determine whether the fault lies with a sensor (there is 2) or a pipe. While the vehicle is covered under its Jaguar Approved Used Warranty, the earliest date for further diagnostic work is 09/04/25, and unfortunately, there was no courtesy car is available. Upon leaving the repairer dealership having confirmed the above date for diagnostic/repair, the “Limp Mode” issue occurred 3 more times on the journey back home.

I’m still considering the 30-day Vehicle Rejection route (but its going to be close [13/04]) and changing circumstances (as well as the current dependability of the vehicle) do not bode well to a 6hr+ drive back down to Northampton and then there is the costs of the subsequent flight, train and then taxi back home - just to shop around all over again.
To solve the courtesy car issue, at the request of the selling dealership, I contacted Jaguar Assist again and was told they couldn’t help in this case. Although I had followed their roadside assistance process (as advised by the seller dealership), Jag Assist said that now that because the car is booked in for repairs, it’s the repairer dealership’s responsibility to provide a courtesy car - if one is available.

I explained that they had already told me no courtesy cars are available until May ‘25.

Jag Assist then suggested I ask the repairer dealership to contact them directly and request a courtesy car through their internal VOR (Vehicle Off-Road) service, which uses local third-party providers.
I followed this up with the repairer dealership, and they said they’ll pass the message to their Service Team on Monday (they’re currently closed for the weekend).
Apparently the seller dealership will also contact me on Monday to discuss the particulars of the Vehicle rejection process for clarity.

What else was in the report?
There is a scroll bar which suggests there is more below.

Hope you get it sorted one way or another.

Yeah I noticed that too, but they never said...
One weird thing is that in both my own and the AA diagnostics scan: P245F-2A shows as a Diesel Particulate Sensor, yet the car (as we all know) is petrol.

I read a post on another forum that certain VIN numbers were affected by having the wrong sensor installed i.e. Diesel Particulate as opposed to its Petrol variant. My car falls outside of the VINs stated so God knows.

https://www.jaginfo.org/threads/h13...ed-on-gasoline-particulate-filter-gpf.106970/

I just hope it isn't a massive saga to put right.

If I were you, I'd be very close to rejecting the car. There is obviously a serious issue which isn't easily diagnosed. By the the time the car is potentially, but not definitely, repaired you will be outside the time window for rejection. At present, I would not be confident setting off on a 6 hour journey back with the car liable to go into limp mode so I'd be asking the seller to arrange collection.

I hope you get sorted out one way or another, good luck!

Sorry to hear this.
If it was me, with the backdrop that selling dealer won’t even stand behind you to arrange you a courtesy car, in the context that the product they sold you is faulty, then after the 30 day rejection window passes, you’ll most certainly be on your own!
Best wishes with resolving.

I have been following and commented on you issues I would strongly recommend you reject this car, as others have said if it’s not driving correctly and going into limp mode get it recovered by dealer for your money back you should not be expected to get a faulty car back to the dealer you could ask them to collect in person I had to reject car under Consumer rights I had already been back to dealer twice (4 hours each way) I insisted they collected car and very importantly to me made sure I was refunded before the car left me initially they wanted to collect car check it over then refund I reminded dealership they don’t let a car leave them without payment or finance in place so why would I

I'm definitely at a cross roads.

While it was my decision to purchase the car from so far away (based purely upon spec/price and availability) there is the matter of potentially further inconvenience for me in actually getting back home should I even be in a position to return the car in person. I must be the jinx as this is now the second F-Type that I have had issues with - the first being my original V6 that experienced:

  • suspension issues
  • a suspected undeclared front impact that caused the front chrome surround to be "glued" back to the bodywork via the dealer or previous owner
  • on-going "low battery" message
  • seized exhaust valves (fixed thanks to ModStock!)
  • rear quarter panel chrome trim peeling away requiring re-gluing
  • a here maps account that would never allow me to finalise the account creation from inside the car

Although it did sound way better and appeared just as pokey (if not more so) than this V8.

Honestly its enough to make you buy an Audi or god forbid ..... a BMW!

get your money back, plenty of good ones around, then post on this web site the Reg so nobody here buys it

I cant find a single alternate V8 near me with the spec I'm looking for... although I am using AutoT and CarGurus almost exclusively.

Here was me thinking that going to a rep authorised retailer was the answer as opposed to a car supermarket ala CarTime!

UPDATE:
Had to phone repairer Dealership to chase up my call-back.
They advised the same as always - "sorry we have no courtesy cars till May" and that them calling Jag Assist to arrange one via the VOR (Vehicle Off Road) scheme was nonsense - but that they would do so anyway.

They did - and not only do Jag Assist not have any record of my call made on Sat but that they cannot help anyway because I have now booked the car in (via Jag Assist) for a repair at a dealer.

WOW - I do love this "luxury car experience".

Drive it back to where you brought it and get a mate or train to take you back home. If that was me I’d 100% give the car back and get your money back asap. It’s your rights to get a full refund it’s not fit for purpose end off.

On principal, I feel like doing just that, except it would be more like "Limp moding it back"

Haha, my mates are good, but not that good. But I get the idea, Just hate the idea of being out of pocket for a second time just to get home. If this is what happens then it's been a bloody expensive "test drive".

My seller retailer is trying to arrange something via Jag Assist (but apparently they don't have a service in my area?!?) They are due to call me back today as is the fixer dealer with an approximation of the size of the repair.

You have to be careful with principles 😉
At the moment you are in the strongest position your going to be after 30 day you lose so much of your position of strength I think it will be more messing about than this is currently bite the bullet get it sent back get your money back look for different reliable F type
