The F-Type Hypermiling Challenge!

I’ve recorded (ok, the Jaguar remote app has) almost 200 journeys in the last year and the best I’ve managed is 35.2mpg as mostly on motorway with average speed cameras at 50mph, worst is 10.3mpg and overall average is 23.4mpg. Seems ok to me for what it is.

I measure my consumption by the tank so my excesses are somewhat hidden! Best tank consumption: 20.67mpg, worst 12.04 with an overall average of 17.1mpg, but most of my journeys tend to be short after a cold start. Cold starts really kill fuel economy (if that's the right word for a V8!).

Just achieved 34.3 mpg average in an SVR with passenger and fully laden boot on a trip from home in the north of England to Eastern France, it included most types of roads, towns, cities and motorways, I kept within speed limits most of the time with the occasional heavy right foot to overtake.
The figures were averaging over 35mpg until I got lost in a city and navigated cobble roads to get out!
This last day the average has dropped slightly to around 32.8 mpg as we hit the steep and winding mountain roads.

The car is now getting better on fuel as its now run in with 2900 miles. MPG getting better as indicated on its first return journey from a long run. 8-) Air con was on and drove in D normal mode. Not bad for a V8!

After 4+ years I've never attempted a hyper mile!!

Tomorrow morning at some ridiculous time I am leaving Derby for Lowestoft which I intend to do in a single sitting so I'll give it a go and post the result...

My best to date was a long 1 hr 59 min 174.9km drive Ave Speed 92 kmh Efficiency 6.7 L/100 km

In old money: 1hr 59m 108.7 miles Ave Speed 57.2 mph 35.1 mpg (US)

Is that 42.2 mpg then? 😬

Not sure not a mpg person as not used them in my life but did the conversion on Google, could be. Did have a/c on still so not the best I could do I think, but rarely turn off a/c.

Roof down increases fuel consumption too on mine, so you need roof up, all unnecessary electrics off! Not something I’ll be trying as I didn’t buy it for economy and if it ain’t raining the roof is down!

Not really Hypermiling, but a leisurely drive down the M1 few blasts to overtake etc, mostly on speed limiter thanks to the cameras on the M1 now...

Interestingly saw a set of ambulances flying down the opposite way and the speed cameras flashing away!

But is it right they put speed camera notices on every gantry, but only cameras every 10th or so?

You can see the cameras, now they are yellow boxes on the side of the gantries. Not on all gantries. Normally you can spot them on the opposite side easier, but I have spotted some on one side only so don't rely on that approach.

After about 1840 mile or thereabouts trip to France and back on all roads including mountain passes and cities where the consumption went up, I drove within most limits with the occasional blast in tunnels and out of toll gates etc, I achieved over 31 mpg average which I thought was good for an SVR.

Recent trip to the new forest with 32.7mpg average. When I picked up the car, the 300 miles home also averaged 32mpg, which included stopping half way to take my daughter out on a 15 mile blast. The constant speed motorway stuff is where it merely sniffs fuel.
