Anybody used Sale or Return at an independant dealer to try to eak out more than WBAC pays and a bit closer to what you might get via private sale.. without actually selling privately ?

Any pitfalls ?

Not done SoR but wouldn’t go via WBAC. Have you thought to go through Motorway or Car Wow. Both only via dealer/traders. Simple and secure.

By brokerage sale do you mean sale or return ?

I use WBAC just to track the direction of the market but would rather keep the car than sell it at their discount to retail.

I've used Car Wow to sell a car twice now. Nice and simple process and no hassle and I got a price I was very happy with. I did try WBAC once and they were overly harsh on the assessment of my car, in my opinion.

If you do go down the SoR route be sure to check what happens if the dealer were to go bust. Could you get your car back in those circumstances? Also, do they have a good reputation that you can independently verify? I've heard of some horror stories where someone has lost their car and not received their money either.

By “sale or return” do you mean a commission based sale, where you let a dealer take your car and stand it in his forecourt to achieve a sale?
I’d be sceptical of that, and have heard horror stories from folk who’ve been royally shafted and lost their wheels. Beware, is probably the best advice.

I’m watching a neighbour selling a vehicle on sale or return and it’s pitiful.
They have it on offer at what was paid for it near new 7 years ago claiming strong demand, but in reality just a price to flatter. No serious viewings. They have the right to the vehicle for 3 months after which the owner can take it away, but has to pay them commission and costs for the period. Mot became due so that payable and some minor work required. Next step is an agreed price drop of 10%. These asking prices are not even agreed sale minimums..
Seller has of course seen no money, no car and caught between a rock and a hard place.
Not saying always bad but understand fully the terms of the agreement..

Shocking and disgraceful.

Or, is it a case of a “fool and his money”….. ?
