Saying hello / loitering as I hanker after an F-Type!

Hey folks

I thought I'd register and say hello as I've pretty much decided on an F-type as my next car when I return to the UK.

I moved to Dubai earlier in the year and will probably be here for at least another year or so but that hasn't stopped me from already thinking about being back home and driving again!

I've always been a bit of a petrolhead and I don't really need / can't justify a car to myself while I'm over here so had to sell my Alpina before I came over. Best single car I've ever had that and a very sad sale

My thinking when I get home is for an R75 or possibly an SVR. My head says go for the R75, my heart (and ears) say go for the SVR. I suspect I'll end up with the newer car and then look for creative solutions to free a bit more noise up from the V8, I'd especially be looking for a bit more overrun characteristic without annoying my neighbours too much.

Previous cars have included the Alpina B3, Alpine A110, couple of Impreza WRX wagons, and a small handful of MX5s across the generations. Added a few pics for interest :)

I'm realising I've not had a V8 to play with yet so that's a huge part of my thinking behind going for the F-Type! so hopefully you don't mind me hanging around and educating myself over the coming months?

Cheers, Phil

Welcome.

Great car history. I would love the Alpina for family duties, tunning! As it happens, I just bought a MX5 NC to compliment the V8 P450. Wanted something to tinker with and modify whilst still have a manual box in the fleet. My plan is to put all climate tyres on it and use it over the winter months and SORN the F-Type as it's a keeper. I still want to be driving it in 20 years, it's just so special.

Lookup Fuse 15 and Modstock if going for a facelift car. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Not sure if you've driven a F-Type, but consider it a sporty GT car at best, especially compared to the Alpine, but it's an event every time I get in it. Best car I've had out of 28+ cars

I saw an Alpine A110 and decided to arrange a test drive. Wow, what a car it was, fast, responsive, modern, exhilarating to drive and in Sport Mode burbles and crackles to die for, for about 5 minutes. Great 2nd car but not liveable with in the real world. I very quickly started to worry about the lack of storage, comfort and everything I've come to enjoy with the F-Type.

Perhaps that would come with a V8 but.......

While the Alpina is the best single car I've had the Alpine was the best drivers car by some margin (I had them back to back and gettign their names right took like 6 months)! We did a couple of good trips and tours with it and found it surprisingly adept at it. We had the GT so had a bit of extra storage (like, half a glove box' worth)! but it also came with a matching leather luggage set which was great for the bootand then we could put a couple of carry-on style bags in the frunk. The ride was great as well, amazingly compliant so all in all it was a better car for touring than might be initially expected

Thank you. No I've only ever sat in one and that was some time ago. Sporty GT is exactly what I'd be looking for really. I half considered an LC500 as well but think it'd just be too slow / lazy. I also briefly considered the AMG GT but I'm honestly just not that much of a fan of Mercedes. Although I'd probably not say no to an SLS!

Good to know re the fuse. Is Modstock a full exhaust?
