Just quite how you arrive at this sort of business strategy takes a special person indeed….

(No wonder Sytner thought it a smart move to snap up the remaining F-Types recently.)

It almost feels like Jaguar announced an all electric future first, followed by a cost of living crisis, then the gov announced it would extend the ban on new petrol sales from 2030 to 2035 and whilst Jaguar have managed to produce nothing, not even a picture or press release, Tesla and lots of upcoming brands have swamped a market that is probably pretty much maxed out for choice.

A lot of electric cars on the road are leases or via company car schemes like Octopus but a £100k+ Jaguar isn't going to sell many unless it has an amazing feature like 1000bhp, 600 mile range, 5yr warranty etc. Which I don't think it will.

The cars are pretty much all similar so my thinking is I might as buy a BYD Seal with 530bhp, 5 seats and with every option ticked sub £48k. If I am spending £100k+ on an SUV then I'll have a Range Rover. If I want a sports car, well I've already got one thanks.

Harry Metcalf's latest video puts the reality into perspective. Only someone with the brains of a dead millipede can't see that continuing to move manufacturing to China where it's powered by coal, isn't really achieving that goal of net zero.

I've just watched an article on local BBC news, where some lad is travelling around Britain by electric boat. Range is 25-50 miles. It demonstrates whats possible says the BBC proudly. Except that his mum is in the film and she's driving a Land Rover and meets him to provide power from the battery packs she's had to bring. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Is it me?

Interesting video, personally I completely agree with going to more environmentally friendly vehicles (hence I'm looking for an ftype as they are fuel efficient! 😁) but the idea of electric seems to be the wrong way to go as a nation due to range anxiety, many can't charge at home etc etc.

I'm surprised that hydrogen fuel cells hasn't become more of a thing, has the advantage of being able to fuel as we currently do. Obvious disadvantages are can't yet easily get green hydrogen, plus people concerned about having a bomb in the car but I'm sure those could be resolved

Absolutely bonkers isn't it. I really do think this will be the death of Jaguar, or at least in its current format. They might keep the name alive in one way or another, but no other brand is being this level of incompetent.
I personally think Toyota will have the last laugh. They've made close to no effort to make a pure EV and they are betting on EV uptake topping out at about 30-40%. I believe I'm right in saying that the ONLY EV they've made is one that is a bit crap, and they only did it because California bought in a law that said you couldn't sell cars there unless you had a pure EV on sale as well.

Hydrogen will work for road haulage and plant. Heavy plant can be operating constantly for 18 hours a day over a couple of shifts. Lord JCB did an excellent video on it and he’s heavily into researching hydrogen

Electric will be suitable for final mile deliveries, takeaways etc.

Synthetic fuels are making inroads and once the price comes down then we’re sorted

The reality of EVs and associated (misguided) headlong rush towards net zero contained in an interesting article run by today’s Telegraph newspaper….

Sobering to believe how people, at the leading edge of motor manufacturing and responsible for billions of investments, have not been reading the stars…..? 😳

The Telegraph report, “Switch to Electric Vehicles will take far longer than Forecast”…..

And JLR are clearly not the only ones delaying EV launches. I saw that VW now is postponing some new fancy EVs by 6 years from 2026 to 2032. Lots of EV back pedaling ongoing now for sure. :)

EVs are not just about making and disposing of huge batteries. Here's a couple more points that decision-makers haven't thought about at all, from design and manufacturing to implementation, maintenance and end of life management.

At least they are still selling ICE and hybrid...
