Apple Car Play

I recently bought a 2019 F Type 3.0 V6 R-Dynamic 375bhp (on an 18 plate). I (wrongly) assumed/thought the car was coming with apple car play (which I find very useful in my day-2-day car). Sadly it did not! After 6 months I've now decided that I can't live without it, so need to upgrade or retro fit. Looking on some of the forums it appears that a software upgrade may crack it.. Assume I will then need to put a sim in the car and sign up to the 'in control' system (which up to now I have avoided). Does anyone know if that is the case or will I have to go for an after market retrofit? My current system in the 10" display without the physical buttons to the sides.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated..

Welcome! Let's see some pics of the car. :)

Your ICTP infotainment software is obviously not up to date and was perhaps never updated by the previous owner because carplay was included in the software for the 10" system years ago. It should just be a matter of updating the software to the latest version and you should definitely not need any aftermarket stuff. It won't be wireless though, so you'll have to add a wireless dongle if you want it wireless.

The ICTP software updates did come automatically over the air provided that you had a sim in the car and an account, but it's been a couple of years ago since the last update so I don't know if they still push out updates over the air. As far as I know not all cars got SOTA updates from the get go and the dealers had to do something to enable it. You could try getting a sim and signing up but it might not work. I would check with a dealer what to do.

Thanks MajorTom, that all sounds very sensible. I'll start by ordering up a sim and getting online. Then if I can't sort myself ill run it into a dealer (pic attached)....

I thought ICTP etc updates via SOTA use the cars internal SIM and not the user SIM. This is dependant on an active InControl account.
New owner will need to have dealer or CRC transfer ownership to them from previous owner (proof of ownership needed). In theory you should then be able to create your new InControl account. Any issues with this will likely need a CRC ticket for help from JLR (not dealer).
CRC should be able to push a SOTA update if needed.

Nice one John! Since you have the open RWD bonnet vents I'd consider upgrading them to the shrouded black pack vents if you ever intend to subject the car to rain.

Good point Nigel. I thought the SOTA required the user sim used for the live services but I could well be wrong since it was years ago that I set mine up and it frankly is quite confusing with the two sims and different accounts and services. So setting up an account and getting help from CRC if needed sounds like a good start. I hope CRC is still there and more or less responsive considering everything that's been going on with JLR.

I had a few dramas last summer with setting up InControl on my f-type but luckily I had point of reference with my account as everything was working fine with my f-pace.
Jaguar CRC we’re actually very helpful and we’re ready to support local dealer when the car needed a VSS sync that could not be done OTA. I really hope the CRC are still around to provide help and support.
I do have the user SIM but I only rely on this for live traffic updates, local fuel stations etc.

You're right, the SOTA updates go over the car's inbuilt SIM provided by Jaguar. The user SIM is only needed for online stuff that you can't reasonably expect Jaguar to pick up the tab for (additional nav features, etc.

HI Johng, Did you manage to get the issue sorted out as I have the same issue with my 2019 model on a 2018 plate P300.
