im sure this must have been covered before but i cant find anything specific.

Im in the process of buying a 2017 build 400 sport roadster. It has the 8" harmon kardon system.
I want apple car play , and im assuming this needs to have a module fitted?
The f type im replacing is a 2013 roadster with a bosch system, that required the dash trim ,trim at side of transmission tunnel and trim behind the seats to be removed to install a car play module , not a straight forward job. Does anyone know if the later cars require the same or is it just the dash trim that needs removing?

You could try LR Retrofits - https://lr-retrofits.co.uk/x152-f-type

If you VIN contains "JCK" they can upgrade to the 10" system which comes with Carplay I believe.

This might be useful.
Harry Metcalfe fitted carplay to his Project 7 and there's a bit at the start of this video about it

Same model year here. I fitted UAD's kit for this system a year ago and it's been brilliant ever since. With the MY18 system it also works a bit different than in the older cars like Harry's.

Mine is a coupé and it was a bit of a pig of a job, and apparently it's even more work in a convertible.

As mentioned, you can also get the OEM 10" screen with the OEM JLR CarPlay software fitted by LR Retrofits. More expensive than going the UAD route and both solutions arguably have their pros and cons.
