Advice on possible purchase - Reims edition

Hope someone can help.

Im looking for a F-type and up to now every Ver. 2 (is that what you call them) Ive seen has had a problem with the DRL. So Ive started to look at 2021+ model . I have seen the below which is a bit out of my price point to the fact Im thinking of pcp which Ive always been dead against but would allow me to get it. The model is everything I want with the colour , spec and is not the 2.0 which I dont really want but would take if need be. Its just that compared to a lot in the same age range it seems cheaper. Is there a reason for this at all?

Only downside of the Reims version is you can't get the performance seats, which is real shame. For me they were a must when looking for my P450, suspect this may be reflected in the price.

No service history since December 2023. Missed rear diff oil change at last recorded service.

Listed incorrectly on Jaguar system as a Grey Eigar grey car for some reason. But correct on DVLA etc.

PDI 22nd March 2021 but not registered until 25th June 2021. Possibly showroom car then ran as demonstrator as was resold 7th Nov 2022.

I can't work it out but looks like 3 previous owners as car has moved from Essex to Huddersfield to Leeds. Was on a private as some services don't match. Expired tax. MOT due soon.

With any used car, get an extended test drive and get an independent check of the car and history.

Since you're overstretching the budget and talking of a PCP, which will burn thousands in interest, why not just get an earlier model despite the DRL issue? You can negotiate down on the price if faulty, get seller to replace it, or just buy a new headlight.
Will be a lot cheaper in the long run.

I think the above advised service history would put me off. Buying a cared for, well maintained F Type is important.

The headlight issue is a likely £3000 problem down the line. If you don’t fancy such a bill it’s definitely one to consider.

Buying from a specialist is another way to ensure you’re buying a decent car, as they will only sell good cars and know what they’re looking at.

I fully agree with you that forums magnify issues and problems as that's what gets posted about. However, op is saying every car he's looked at in that facelift version has the DRL issue, so it's very real.

Up to now Ive seen one in the flesh with the problem and then about 3 others that have the lights on for the photos on Autotrader are clearly showing dimming of the passenger lights. Wish Id bookmarked them tbh.

There are 89 MY18/MY18.5 with facelift LED F-Types for sale on AT.
Of the first 10 adverts.
6 look ok
2 have the issue on nearside DRL
1 had no pictures of front with lights on
1 had a picture of everything except front nearside.

So as snapshot of data, and remembering there are not that many for sale, it looks to be 25-33% however we don't know how many have already been replaced. Mine has.

There seems to be nothing in common, it affects 2L, 3L and 5L. Does not seem mileage related. Mine lasted until 50k miles and I've seen one with 10k miles with same issue.

Here is a classic example of the issue. Will look worse in the dark. Taken from a live AT advert.


There are also interesting ones on AT such as this one. Note top of nearside gone but also middle of offside!


So it's probably fair to say they all will eventually fail.

Mine was covered on Jaguar Extended Warranty, which I've kept running since I purchased the car from new, now 8yrs old and had quite a bit done under that extended warranty. Expect to pay approx £3500 for a replacement headlight fitted at Jaguar however note the Jaguar warranty only pay cost price. So instead of £210 an hour plus vat labour rates the general public pay, warranty only pay £53.99 and also get the headlight at cost. I guess that is why garages hate doing warranty work!



Only posting this because the 23 pages of useful DRL stuff went missing without any explanation, control or common sense.

Is it possible for me to do this sort of check in future. I've had a look and see I can check jaguar service, just wondered how to get the VIN number if not on the advert.

There are many different methods to find reg numbers not displayed on adverts, previous reg changes, VIN from reg (and even reg from a VIN and online Police National Computer records which show stolen records such as "isitnicked). Plus your usual tools such as tax and MOT checks.

Most are from the sellers websites with poor security and code which lists more information behind the scenes but is hidden from being shown to the user. When you visit a website it discloses additional information which isn't shown to you. And likewise you send data and allow cookies disclosing information about yourself. Sometimes it's even simpler with the car pictures containing metadata with reg and other details listed. I've seen a picture titled "reg number pic of damaged bumper we repaired" lol

In chrome view-sourcefollowed by URL) in an inprivate browser session, is your friend for most things.

EDIT - of course if your stuck then post back or create a new topic. I haven't yet had an issue finding information. I'm on here most days, a lot today because I'm not at work today, so I do reply but can take a couple of days with other commitments.

Of course, the DRL issue may be the reason the car has been moved on?
