Thinking about an SVR

Currently using my P380 as a daily driver. 2 trips to the office most weeks, a bit of poodling around at the weekends, a week in the Highlands in spring and the whole of August criss-crossing the alps this coming summer :D

Spent a fair bit of time looking at SVRs and seriously thinking about one after August. While fuel economy isn't top priority, it would be good to know what to realistically expect.

I get about 27 to 28 mpg driving to work. 35 ish mpg on motorway runs and maybe 21 or 22 mpg when I'm on it.

Any real world experience with an SVR would be appreciated. Cheers

Not a SVR owner, but have a P450 V8 and previously had a V6S for 3 years, both RWD. MPG on a longer motorway run is actually slightly better on the V8, longer gearing. Day to day there's very little in it, nothing noticeable. The only time I do notice much worse MPG is short (1-2 miles trips around town). I average 25mpg.

I've been driving SVRs a lot this year, and first, it really is down to your right foot. I would say that overall, the SVR is only slightly thirstier than the V6. I hyper-miled one for the first half of a run from Glasgow to Andover, and in very favourable traffic, saw 38MPG. The rest of that journey, with typical traffic and cruising at motorway speeds, delivered 33MPG. Around town or hoofing about the countryside you'll get down to mid-20s, and on the track I would aim for single figures!

Wow. That's similar to what I'm currently getting. Great news. Time to start looking what's out there.

My V8 P575 does around 23-25mpg with normal driving, 30-35mpg on a long motorway cruise, 8-10mpg with spirited driving.

DOC IW. While the numbers aren't fantastic, they're not bad enough to put me off. Thanks.

Why would you buy a SVR if you were worried about MPG?
Buy a cheap electric car to commute and save the SVR for weekends 😁

I am very luckily enjoying driving regularly both V6S 380 awd and an SVR, can confirm same.

Umm, because I really want one ?

I did say economy isn't a priority, but that doesn't mean I'm not curious about what to expect. If I get the SVR it'll still be my daily and do 5k to 6k in a month in the Alps each summer.

I always bought cars (and bikes) to enjoy. Never looked for a solid investment or to keep the mileage low. Always kept them well serviced and maintained, and then wring the neck out of them occasionally :D

The feedback has been very encouraging. Not vastly different to my P380 😊👍🏻

If you're trying to talk yourself into it (which you definitely should!) bear in mind residuals. From what I've seen of the market, SVRs seem to hold their value better than any other model.

Medium-term they'll probably continue to depreciate noticeably more slowly than a P380. Long-term I reckon they could start gaining value as a modern classic.

That alone will likely offset any difference in mpg.

From the earlier posts, it sounds like I won't find a huge difference in mpg from my P380.

Yeah, I've pretty much convinced myself I deserve an SVR 😂

Timing is wrong, because I want to do my Alps road trip in my current car, but i really fancy something special like this (velocity blue in satin finish)

Could just trade your current and do your Alps trip in that SVR 😈

Ha ha, true :D

But I only got my F-Type in April and really enjoyed a 2000 mile week in the Highlands. Been looking forward to my month in the Alps. That's the right time to look for my SVR.

It's not exactly gonna be a hardship ....

I'm always amazed by the MPG I can get out of my SVR. Obviously it depends on how hard the right foot goes to the floor but on long motorway journeys, sticking more or less to the speed limits, mid to high 30's are the usual. Even managed to hit 40 once according to the Jaguar app!

This confirms the earlier post suggesting the longer gearing in the SVR improves mpg on motorway runs. It'd be crazy NOT to get an SVR 😂👍🏻

You may miss the shorter gearing of the V6S in terms of fun, I do. Loved banging through the gears. V8 with V6S gearbox would be the best F-Type.

Wouldn't it just be the diff ratios?

Probably yes. Would be great to do a diff swap, but it's not so each on the F-Type since they're fundamentally different designs.
