Stone chips and PPF

I just wanted to make a record in the Internet in case future owners are researching.<br /><br />I've owned my F for a few months now and immediately upon purchase I had a full frontal PPF kit fit. This is a pre cut kit specifically designed for the F and covered the full bumper, 1/3 bonnet, CF front splitter and CF wing mirrors <br /><br />It is a Suntek film which is guaranteed for 5 years and is self healing.<br /><br />I had it fit my Drayke Fields who looked after my RS 5 and R8's.<br /><br />http://www.draykefields.co.uk/archive/41-bluejaguarftyper/<br /><br />They did a superb job and really could recommend them highly enough!<br /><br />Anyhow, a few months and a few thousand miles past and I noticed the car was picking up significant stone chipping on the lower side sills and also higher up on the rear arches.<br /><br />So, got the sills resprayed and then took the opportunity to add further PPF.<br /><br />I went to Drayke Fields and they did some custom PPF on the lower sills, rear haunches and the front and rear wheel splashes for a very reasonable price<br /><br />They did a superb job and you genuinely cannot see the film<br /><br />The best bit is that they have scanned and save the custom PPF on these areas and can now laser cut the film.<br /><br />So, if you have an F or are buying one, I would massively recommend you get these areas covered. It will give you peace of mind and keep your pride and joy looking brand new.<br /><br />When I picked the car up, Drayke Field said now they have scanned the custom PPF they can offer it cheaper than it cost me as obviously it quite labour intensive to do it custom<br /><br />So I would massively recommend Drayke Fields to look after your pride and joy<br />

Did they wrap around ALL the edges and wheel arches as well?<div><br></div><div>From experience, I would recommend a full bonnet as I picked up chips on my V8S Cab far back on this panel.</div><div>They should be able to cover the whole bonnet with a 60'' width roll if they are any good at fitting. I took my car to Kent to get this done as most PPF installers would not do a full custom fit that I wanted unfortunately.</div><div><br></div><div>Our new V8R is completely covered, from top to toe, every panel. Most of the more intricate panels are not on the 'pattern' database that XPel use. I even have Xpel on the inside of the door trim areas where you swing your legs in and out of the footwell...saves picking up scratches on the plastic work too. Even my start button has a disk cut out to fit, so that it eventually won't go shiny! </div><div>Suntec is great for clarity, however Xpel gives you at least 10 years guarantee, so we went for that, but it all comes form the same place, so I doubt the differences are that great, and I'm sure you could leave the stuff on for 20 years and it would be fine on a dark clouded car. Might start yellowing and be noticeable on a white car perhaps.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>PPF is defiantly the way forward, and so easy to clean...damp MF towel, finished with Pledge Lemon for a great shine!</div>

<div><br></div><div>Didn't realise that. I went with Paintshield for mine (that's the installer, although not sure what film they use), which has a 4 year guarantee.</div><div><br></div><div>A sprayer with 50% water/50% white vinegar is great for removing water spots on any ppf film, FYI.</div>

I went with premium shield elite film as that's what the installer uses. It apparently comes with a "lifetime" warranty - although I'm not sure how long that actually is!<div>It has taken just over a week to coat the entire car, as well as touching up a couple of stone chips and polishing it all before the film went on. Still not got it back - will have been in the detailers for more than 9 days by the time he's finished!</div><div>I also got him to coat the illuminated tread plates with the same stuff to avoid scuffing them, for anyone else with a carbon roof I would definitely recommend it. I've heard some horror stories about people with chips on their carbon roof requiring replacement.</div>

Any recommendations londonessexkentherts? Time to get mine detailed and potentially sills and bumper wrapped...

I've recently noticed there are a small PPF in the rear corner of the panel below the doors. I have PPF covered the front of the car (e.g. the bonnet, the wing mirror, etc...) but the not the rear part of the car.<div><br></div><div>Does anyone else have that? </div>

All cars come fitted with the small patch forward of the rear wheels. <br /><br />Unfortunately these cars attract stones like nobody's business, hence why we had the whole car done. Expensive, but the car is a keeper, so it's a no brainer.

<div> </div><div>DUB Customs in Basildon, seen a couple of F-Types in there recently having wraps, PPF and other little tweaks ... https://www.instagram.com/dub_customs/?hl=en </div><div> </div><div>Or hop over the water and head for KDS in Gillingham ... probably the best detailer in the country and no offering full PPF services http://www.kdskeltec.co.uk/ </div><div> </div><div>Have used both for different jobs, satisfied with all jobs done ...</div>
