P380 bank 2 oxygen sensor no.3 - cost?

Hi All. The dreaded amber engine symbol popped up on Sunday. I'm just back from a Jaguar dealer who plugged in to find it was a fault with bank 2 oxygen sensor number 3. They have quoted me £675.17 inc vat for the part and fitting. I have no experience of this failing in any of my previous cars so am not sure if this is the going rate (appreciate labour will be more expensive at a Jag dealer), but wanted to know if anyone has had one replaced recently and this quote is in the right ball park. I have ALA warranty but the dealer won't deal with 3rd party warranty companies so I have to pay and try to claim back (hoping this is covered under the warranty). Any guidance much appreciated

I’d check your warranty - likely it has a maximum labour rate payable that will be well below what a Main Dealer charges.

I’d certainly get a quote from a good independent to see how much cheaper it will be - hopefully fully covered by your warranty.

Thanks for the reply. I went Platinum with ALA which covers labour at £100 per hour. Just got to wait for them to open in the morning to see if it’s good news or bad news.

Seems pricey! The part is about £100.

I had one go in 2019.

The invoice says "Fault ODE stored for Heated oxygen sensor Bank 2 sensor 3 (NSR)"
Total £262.42.

That was Jaguar Derby and covered by warranty.

I managed to get a genuine part online for £78 (each) on ebay a few years back. Socket was around £12, code reader\reset tool was £20. I managed to fit one myself, the other i just couldn't remove and cost me 1 hours labour at £85 which I thought was expensive, wouldn't have taken more than 10 minutes once up in the air.

Basically, avoid main dealers.

I covered this fault here 👇

Had the same sensor replaced 3 weeks ago. It's a 30 min job done at my local Jaguar specialist. Parts and labour £230 covered by RAC. They approved the repair in less than a day once I submitted the quote from the garage. Hope this helps.

Definitely find a decent independent you can trust - you'll get better service at a reasonable labour rate. Main dealers expect you to pay through the nose.
