Hi everyone, placed my order for white convertible 340 auto and am in the "holding pool". Does anyone have any idea how long I might be waiting? Also I went for the 340 rather than 380s (budgetary decision), has anyone got one of these, do you think it's quick enough? I did spec the active exhaust!

Congrats on placing your order! <div><br></div><div>I'm afraid I can't really speculate on what the current timescales are but I'm certain someone on here will have a good idea! </div><div><br></div><div>I also don't have the V6 version so I can't really offer anything overly constructive there either but from the feedback I've read on here about the 340/380s comparison I gather that the 340 will certainly be quick enough! </div><div><br></div><div>With that active exhaust I can't imagine you'd really miss the 40 brake deficit anyway!!</div>

In the grand scheme of things (i.e. normal UK roads) I reckon the base model is completely fine.<br><br>At this point, i'll confess that I went for the V6s, but the choice wasn't all about louder brum brum noises fitted as standard and the need to go slightly faster. It was a whole combination of things that came together and made me opt for the 's'.<br><br>I'd be amazed if you can tell the difference powerwise between the 340 and the 380 on normal roads.<br><br>Just relax and enjoy your new F-Type when it finally arrives. <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /><br>

I rented the 340 before buying my s, honestly I can't tell much of a difference, but going used I needed the s to get switchable exhaustnice seats.

Hi I have also ordered a base model but in my case a coupe. Like you budget dictated which one to buy. I am also in the holding pool but have been told to expect the car at the end of May. Can't wait. I think the 340 will have plenty power and the torque in both cars are virtually identical.

Don't really think there is much of a difference in power between them both but I was drawn to get the S as I liked the configurable dynamic features.

I took delivery of a 340 Coupe mid March, having done what research I could. The power curves show that the 340 and 380 are virtually identical in power delivery until 4000rpm then the 380 uses its extra 40 up the rpms to the redline. So unless you plan on screaming around in 1st or 2nd gear (I think you can do over 60mph in 2nd?) you are unlikely so see any difference on the roads 90% of the time. Depending on what you are coming from, the 340 has plenty power, arguably much more useable than the other models up the line.<div><br></div><div>All F Types now have active exhausts, its just you can spec the switch which opens the valves at lower revs (pre 4000). I didn't spec the switch thinking I am far too mature to be frightening grannies on street corners, but this car is such a laugh that I wish I had now. Having said that it still seems to pop on throttle off at lower revs.</div><div><br></div><div>As for delivery, Jaguar seem quite good at exceeding expectations, i.e. delivering on or before the date given on ordering, mine came 2 weeks early, 10 weeks after ordering late Dec. However, it looks like they may be prioritising F Pace builds currently so the wait may be a bit longer now- your dealer should be able to say more on this.</div>

Hi GNG. I have a 340PS convertible, also in white. It's plenty fast enough to scare me. The acceleration (and accompanying soundtrack with the active exhaust) is epic! Best of luck with it. I'm sure you'll have a blast!

For me the suspension in the s is more compliant than the base model. As said performance only shows at the top end

Interesting point Ronniet. When I originally had a test drive in an F-Type, I had about 1 hour mixed driving in a 340, followed immediately by the exact same drive in a 380 and I didn't pick any obvious differences regarding the ride quality, but maybe you have had a more telling drive when you drove them both.<br>I was probably too busy thinking of other things at the time, and my radar didn't pick it up, however, the addition of a limited slip diff was a significant factor for me when opting to go for the 380. I just didn't like the thought of driving a powerful car like an F-Type in the wet without the benefit of an LSD.<br>

I have 340 coupe. Test drove the S and the 340 and couldn't tell the difference. I suppose it depends on who you drive it. Think a limited slip diff and adaptive dampers are probably gonna be more use on a track then your average UK road. For budget reasons I went for a nice spec on the 340. I'd suggest if you go for the 340 you get the switchable exhaust...

<div>Do you remember if you drove the S in Dynamic mode? There is a difference from normal or even in sports mode.</div>

It was a main dealer test drive, tested in normal, dynamic and dynamic + sport mode. Took it on the motorway then some smaller roads. The drive was great but I couldn't justify the extra cost. At least not for the way I drive and the roads I typically use... The S has some amazing features. I liked the configurable dynamic mode settings. But, to be honest I didn't notice a great deal of difference in power up to 60mph. I doubt I'd really notice the adaptive dampers and limited slip diff unless I were to push the car hard (as on a track maybe). If I had the money, I would've gone for it or even the R but as money was a factor I just couldn't justify the extra cost.
