MY18 P340 Manual Caldera Red

As long as that is the car you want then welcome to the club. However you seem unsure on the spec against what you wanted.

There are 214 manuals out there somewhere. Of which only 68 are the more desired S (380PS).

2012 Total = 0
2013 Total = 0
2014 Total = 0
2015 Total = 60
2016 Total = 63
2017 Total = 33
2018 Total = 46
2019 Total = 10
2020 Total = 1 (older model)
2021 Total = 1 (older model)

A more complete package came up this week (S badge, custom interior, sports seats, pano roof, factory fitted fixed spoiler). It had 45K miles. I was interested even though it was in Reading (I'm in Huddersfield). It didn't last 24 hours. Someone else bought it as a Christmas gift for his wife! 🎄🙄

But manuals are super rare so I'm inclined to compromise as my budget is about 25K plus PX. I called my local Jaguar dealership yesterday. The manager said he's been with the brand for 8 years and they never had a single manual up for sale...

I'll test drive it on Wednesday and we'll see.

Looks very nice! Decent spec and very good that it's a facelift car.

One odd thing is that it seems to lack a reversing camera and front parking sensors - both IMHO important features in these cars due to the very limited visibility out back and the long bonnet. Even with those features navigating tight places with the F-Type can be quite a challenge and it would really benefit from 360 cameras which sadly never were an option.

The black interior would be a deal breaker for me but it's still a very nice place to be and you seem happy to compromise. A few mods can compensate for some other spec flaws. The LSD and adaptive damping can't be retrofitted but the car may well be engaging enough anyway. A simple remap will unlock its normal power around 400 horses and the chrome bits can easily be wrapped black.

If you like it enough to go ahead - many cars of this model year have issues with the passenger side DRL, so check that it's as bright as on the driver's side. If you intend to drive in rain or keep the car outdoors it would be good to update those bonnet vents to the shrouded ones and/or add some water deflecting insulation to the engine cover.

Good luck!

Thank you all for the replies so far and to MajorTom for adding to my list of stuff I need to check out.

First the bonnet vents, I had heard about it the first time I started looking at the F-type about 18 months ago but forgot about it.

The car has been a garage queen but if I buy it, its royalty days will be over 😉. It will be my daily and kept outside all the time. It will be well looked after as I'm a detailing enthusiast but the water ingress worries me a bit. I had read all the 9 pages of this thread but wonder if there's anything new about it?

https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=4921&start=80

Regarding LSD, I had to look it up, never heard of it. Sounds interesting but does it make much difference? I worry about the Pzero tyres that it has fitted....I've been on the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric family for 4 years and it has transformed my FWD TT. Since I won't have LSD, are the Pzero that bad that I should replace them straight away?

I was excited about adaptive damping and assumed it was standard on the R... 🤔

Regarding parking camera, is there a thread here talking about aftermarket options? The same goes for the head unit, can it be upgraded to something more modern and compatible with Android Auto?

If I do buy this car, I plan on sticking with the car's exterior for the 1st year then will look into wheels, wrapping the chrome bits, etc. I'll be swapping the reg plates for 3D ones and tint the rear windows soon.

No news about the bonnet water ingress I'd say. Mine is hardly ever parked outdoors but gets driven in rain so I did what Jon did in that bonnet vent thread - glued some additional deflecting material on the sides on the engine cover. That's the main thing to do, then the shrouded vents would also probably be a good idea.

I've never made a back to back comparison of LSD vs no LSD but youtube reviews suggest that the LSD does make a difference to the driving dynamics. You'll be fine with the P Zeros but they are a bit rubbish compared to Michelins, especially when it gets cool and wet.

Adaptive damping is standard on the "real" R RWD (not R-Dynamic trim), S RWD and I believe 400 sport RWD cars. As far as I know, no 340 hp car came with it. Just look at the damper struts under the bonnet - if there's a cable connected to it, it's adaptive.

For Android auto the way to go is to install an after market device from UAD. I think you can also add an aftermarket camera with the UAD kit but it seems a bit complicated and I haven't seen any discussions about on here. Maybe on the US forum. For these MY18 cars you can also get the bigger 10" screen installed so you get the OEM Android Auto/Carplay integration but it's no DIY job. It also requires some software recoding and you lose some climate control features. LR Retrofits are known for providing this kind of upgrade for some 1000 GPB if I recall correctly.

Couple of posts/threads about reversing camera installs here:
https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=72439&hilit=Unique+auto+camera#p72439
And:
https://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=48817&hilit=Unique+auto+camera#p48817

They both seem to refer to UAD kit.

I wouldn’t worry about the P Zeros - I’ve driven nearly 40,000 miles on two different cars 24/365 and they’ve been fine. Only twice have they broken traction - both times under acceleration in greasy wet conditions. It just taught me not to lay down as much raw power. They were fitted to a car I tracked once and they were outstanding, even though it was dry, with feedback and feel, traction and grip. I don’t think I would spend money replacing part-worns; get your money’s worth out of ‘em till the canvas is showing 😗

Hey all! I pulled the trigger today and picked up that MY2018 V6 P-340 R-Dynamic today! My 8 year-old son and I had a thrilling trip home despite the weather. I look forward to contributing and learning from everyone's experience.

Thank you!

I purchased my 2018 P300 in April and am absolutely delighted with the car, same colour as yours, you won’t have any regrets.😂😂

Regarding a reversing camera, I recently posted that I had fitted a Wolfbox G840 mirror mounted device. It provides an excellent rear view, the camera being mounted under the lip of the boot lid. This gives a very wide view, from one side of a 2 lane wide road to the other. If you hardwire it with their kit you also have the benefit of adjustable grid lines. It also operates as a dash cam. I paid £112 for the kit with cigarette lighter connection and a further few pounds for the hardwire cable.

Turning now to an upgrade to a 10” screen, this was done by Mo from L R Refits, he is a consummate professional, as well as being a very nice chap. The transformation is dramatic, the car actually feels bigger with the wider screen, it is quick to react and of course you can use Car play or Android Auto, Google Maps, Waze, Spotify etc. There is a minor issue in that you can’t direct the flow of heating or cooling but the standard distribution is fine, I haven’t experienced a problem either in the heat or cold this year. From memory I think the total cost came to £830, a price worth paying and I don’t regret the upgrade in any way.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and to @mike405 for the advice on the rear camera and screen upgrade. On this point, I've been on Mo's website and the issue is that I'd have to drive down from Huddersfield to for him to carry out the job. I might do it further down the line. The thing about the F-type is that you don't really want anything distracting you from those sublime exhaust noises! So updating the HU is not a top priority for now. The reverse camera is a different story!

Now then, one small snag that I noticed this evening when I went for a 20-min drive: the coolant temperature is not rising above the 1st mark. I had this on the Audi for nearly 2 years before eventually having the thermostat replaced as it was stuck open. It didn't really make any difference after the fix in terms of efficiency, etc. But this is the first time I own a V6 supercharged engine. What do you guys reckon? Is this a common issue? The car has been mostly dormant for almost a year since it was last serviced. Should I give it more time and see?

I did not understand where the temperature reading was on the 50 min drive home from the dealer so I don't know if it stayed low all the time.

Not seen a non-working temperature guage yet on the forum.

As it was off the road for 454 days (and still shows as untaxed) I presume it hasn't been driven (apart from to/from the MOT whilst untaxed) so I would check coolant and fluids are all ok and presumably then start checking thermostat, fuses and connections.

Brilliant exhaust note isn't it? One important and super simple mod to get to hear the exhaust better is to block the utterly pointless symposer. There should be a thread or two about that on here.

The temperature gauge can be a bit confusing at first sight. This is the way it should look when it's fully up to temp. That is, the little white arrow should be right in the middle. Didn't it look like this?

From the post it seems like it's only a quarter up the gauge. It should have definitely reached operating temp after 20 minutes so does sound like maybe a sensor issue?

Oh, I was expecting the blue bar to go up with the temperature, I didn't look for any arrows 😂 I've just been going through all the multimedia and dash configurations, I'll check the arrow next time I go for a drive. I'll check out the symposer mod.

The reason why it's been off the road for so long is that it belonged to a collector who sold it to the dealer along with other cars. It had been on sale since April when it was acquired by the dealer and serviced by SSG Prestige (Jag Specialist) in Barnsley.

All good then! More proof that the gauge can be confusing - you're not the only one. :)

Here's a thread about the symposer. Disregard the grumpy comments from the gentlemen who never tried it or didn't notice any difference. ;) Made a very noticeable improvement in my car.

Read that already, it's still early days for me but I'll keep that in mind. Just to give an initial feedback on the manual gearbox, I really like it. It's very similar to the TT, short throw, very precise. Clutch is good too especially for rev matching. I didn't think I would like the black interior but it is quickly growing on me. The cabin built in courtesy lights help in the dark and the brushed aluminium accents make it meaner yet more pleasant.

Another pleasant surprise was how roomy it is for a 6ft2 "strong" build like me! I had huge concerns that I'd love the car but struggle to stretch my legs and feel comfortable. The brilliant electric steering wheel adjustment makes it perfect IMO.

The blue bar just indicates the cold end of the gauge (see the red one at the top?).
