Sunglasses for those exhausts.👯‍♂️
I like the strategic shed location which will be full of Autoglym polishing products 👍

Nice! I've had darker tints fitted to some other cars before and decided to go for something lighter, only for the rear window, for my F-Type. Some 30% IIRC and turned out perfect for me as it blends in really well and matches the pano roof.

Did you tint the rear lights too by the way? Our facelift cars obviously already have tinted rear lights but yours look unusually dark in the second photo.

When it comes to blacking out the chrome I think red F-Types look best with the black pack, while some other colours look better with the chrome trim. There should be plenty of photos of red black pack F-Types online t compare to.

Before and after chrome to black on a IRR red F type is in the following post.

Wrapping means you can go back at any time, should you change your mind

The wheels were changed to anthracite grey gloss afterwards too.

Thanks! I lightly polished the tips with Never Dull and they came out amazing. You're bang on right about the shed. It's got a very eclectic selection of products from Autoglym, Sonax, P&S, Gyeon, Turtle Wax, Bouncer's Wax, Bilt Hamber... The list goes on 😁. And that's just for the weekly clean. I keep my valuable chemicals cosy inside the house.

Glad to see you've tinted yours too, looks super cool. I have not tinted the taillights, it must have been the angle or the fact it was overcast when I took the picture that made them look darker.

As for the chrome trims, I know the car would look good if I wrap them in black but I wonder if that's not too cliché as the trim of every red hatchback, SUV, etc on the road is black with black wheels 🙄

The chrome trims make the car pop when it's overcast (which means 90% of the year 🤔😊). As I got a dark interior, I think they look cool from the cabin looking out and they match the interior brushed aluminium/chrome trims. Besides, it's a Jag so people know they're high end.

I might leave it as is for a while and revisit the idea in 6-12 months.

Speaking of the chrome trim, the smaller section that contours the rear window on the passenger side has discoloured during previous ownerships. I've tried all I new in terms of product (from Autoglym metal Polish to Never Dull) applied by hand and nothing worked.

Does anyone know the technical spec of this trim? Is it chromed plastic or aluminium or something else? The car has just turned 6 years old and is out of Jag's warranty (I got 1 year RAC warranty). I did think of having a cheeky exploratory chat at the local dealership to see what they'd say or offer.

I had a quote for a replacement piece from someone else in the trade but as it's a single trim around the entire passenger side, it's quite expensive (£500 + labour). The dealer I bought it from offered to buff it for me to see if it helps but I'm not convinced it's going to work.

I know I could try and wrap it in silver chrome or just black it out and it's an option I'm considering but has anyone here experienced this discolouration or knows of a product that's guaranteed to work?

Pictures are from both sides for comparison. Any help would be much appreciated.

Just a quick update, Mark at Automotive Solutions fitted a high quality reverse camera that gives super crisp image and is fully integrated with the head unit and rear parking sensors. He also upgraded the footwell lights and fitted Jaguar specific puddle lights.

The camera installation didn't go through without challenges. My car was registered in September 2017. Although I got the Meridian sound system and the software concurs with MY18s, the hardware is from a 2017 model year. The connection was not what the camera distributor was expecting so it had to be replaced after the rear half of the interior trim had been stripped at the time of installation. So all had to be put back together and I returned two weeks later to have the camera with the correct harness fitted. So, if you're in-between generations it's worth double checking the proper age of the hardware before proceeding.

My setup means I might need a conversion kit from UAD when I decide to upgrade to Android auto and the standard Meridian kit won't work. Bear this in mind too.

I'll see if I can get some drawings and pictures from Automotive Solutions to illustrate this issue. I am glad I went to someone who really knows how sort stuff out professionally.

Is digit 10 of your VIN J - that'd be MY18, H for MY17.

I’m pretty sure the discolouration to the window trim surround is due to UV degradation from the sun. Quite probably the car has been parked with one side subjected to more intense sun than the other, during its lifetime.
I doubt any polishing compound will recover it.
I’ve seen replacements on the Bay:

But, it may be just as effective to have your own piece wrapped.
I also think vwbreakersuk, at Leverton, Boston are breaking X152 so may also have a similar part?

Yes, it's J which makes the whole story even more confusing! I got excited that I could eventually upgrade to the 10" screen going by the VIN but I'm not sure now. I do prefer the physical buttons of the current unit Tbh.

@Moss

Thanks, it turns out that using a 1" pad on a rotary polisher with some Flitz metal polish has done the trick. I haven't finished restoring it yet but it's looking 10x better already. You need a lot of patience and a few pads to remove the oxidation from that section only.

I looked into replacing the trim but the headline needs to come off, not a DIY thing and I was worried about messing up with the interior. If polishing didn't work, I'd have it wrapped. Thanks for your suggestion though.

Just to keep this thread updated, I had the first service done including sparks and brake fluid, MOT for £550 at Jaguar Huddersfield. Quite happy with the service including the inspection video. I got a sample of the old oil ready to go out for analysis with Miller Oils.

Got my first oil analysis report and it's all good. I intend to repeat the test every couple of years. For the price (£39), I think it's worth it.
