Meridian upgrade options?

Ok I’ve tried to resist and try and convince myself that the 380w meridian system is ok, for me it simply is way way off. I’m not posting to debate the 380 v 770 option as I have the standard, I also don’t need recommendations on listening to the exhaust, I like the choice of music or car noise! So, can anyone advise on options they have tried to upgrade their system? From upgraded speakers, dynamat insulation etc to anything else folk can recommend!

Incidentally my issue is buzzing/vibrating from door speakers and the behind the seats speakers. I occasionally like loudish music and the distortion does my head in, I’m not talking particular loud, either. As an example, if I play ‘Tilted’ by Christine and the Queens the intro is a cacophony of buzzing and vibration! My bass is actually set quite low to try and mitigate but no joy, I’m talking no more than two thirds volume either. Incidenstlly dealer has had it once but diagnosed a vibrating door mirror switch, don’t think they had the door cards off. Thanks in advance good people...

Surprised, nobody made any modifications/improvements? Or was it my taste in music, i promise it was merely a sample song that really highlights the buzzing/distortion!!

I've not noticed anything amiss with my system - it's at least as good (to my ears) as the B&W system in my previous XKR.

I had the 770 Watt in my v6, I recently purchased a svr which has the 380 watt. The sound from the 770 was definitely a lot better and no distortion like I have now.

Off topic ... his SVR looks stunning ... separate thread needed :)

On topic ... i too suffered from the buzzing/distortion even with the 770 that came with the car ... a visit to the local ICE dealer and for not a lot of ££, he stripped the panels and installed insulation material, refitted all the panels and the annoying noises had gone and the music was much better without upgrading any of the system ...

I’d suggest the same for yours and then if you need more they will be able to offer upgraded speakers to the OEM enclosures ...

Thanks peeps, yes I think the dynamat route will be option 1 and then component upgrade if need be. Time to find a reputable ICE company in my area!!!

I have the 770W in my SVR and had the 380 previously in a V8R - the difference is noticeable in overall improved sound quality however the installation of the speakers is poor and and occassional vibration is noticeable at times. I am also experiencing a clicking noise through the system both on Radio and I Pod / Phone connection and Bluetooth, along with ICTP freezing issues - the car is with the dealer again today.

Just had Car Play installed to fix the bluetooth / ICTP issues - not only does everything now work, the crackling has gone and the sound is much improved!

I think the speaker installation could be improved however probably a job for a specialist and not the dealer!

This is interesting as I have also had severe buzzing problems with my Meridian since I bought it, so will try this route. Very poor standard install I think. It doesn't matter whether it is set on Meridian, DTS Neo or Pro logic - it all sounds rubbish in one way or another!

BTW how do you tell whether the Meridian is a 770 or other spec anyway?

There was a lot of talk on the US forum about poor quality of the 770 Meridian, but they found that a software update fixed things nicely. Seems the software crossover logic was feeding frequencies to the wrong drivers, overdriving them.

Apparently there is a dynamat, or similar, dealer fix for the buzzing/vibrating speakers/trim? If anyone has any info on this I for one would be really grateful as car is at the dealer for other things as we speak!!

The US dealers have a bulletin that has them insulating the door panel with Dynamat. I helped the tech do my car this past spring. When finished the panel is quite heavy but no buzzing . This along with the software upgrade makes quite an improvement. You can also upgrade all the speakers s well. The factory speakers with the 770 Meridian system are the same as the lower spec ones fitted to the sedans. The link below provides information on which factory speakers you can use to upgrade your system.

My recommendation would be to drop in the Audison amp and dynamat the doors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHi9cXs3Lvk&t=206s

I know this is an old topic, but Mikey Drums on F-Type Owners Facebook group has shared a great video on adding sound proofing to doors and upgrading all speakers to OEM Jaguar speakers with kevlar cones. Less than £200 all in, and significant improvements by the sound of it:

I have a 2018 F type R and I have never been satisfied with the Meridian system. I have done some research and it strikes me that Jaguar did not commission a sound system unique to the F Type instead they simply used existing systems from existing models, specifically the x351 (XJ) 2010-2012 and I believe in some cases the Range Rover.
The x351 came with two systems, the standard and the premium, they fitted the standard speakers to all F Types, rather than use the premium ones.
I have acquired a full set of premium speakers for my car which comprises of 2x titanium tweeters, 2 x mid range 4” Kevlar coned speakers and 2x 8” premium Kevlar coned subwoofers. Total cost £278. I intended to use sound deadening dodo mat (20sqm) £29.99.
So £300 to upgrade. I will wait for warmer weather to do a good job of the sound insulation. Will keep you posted. Ludders

That's certainly not the impression the Meridian guys at Millbrook gave during the "F-Type Beyond Limits" event I attended back in 2014. They were quite keen to get our feedback on the job they'd done, but quite frankly we were all too obsessed with the exhaust that I doubt anyone even turned the system on! So blame the exhaust for the lack of constructive feedback!

Which Meridian system do you have? The 380w (says "Meridian") or the full fat 770W (says "Surround Sound")? I find the 380W system to be fine.
