Low level scrapeing

Twice now, have just touched the bottom plastic bit under the spiltter. (Not sure what this is called, deflector?). It's not too obvious so not especially worried, but need to be much more careful! Wondering about a stick on rubber strip to give any touching a bit more resilience. Comments or other suggestions welcome.

Hi Paul,
nothing to worry about - the scuff plate is exactly that and helps to shield the painted bumper
Easily replaced if its starts to fray / look ugly, from memory its 3 separate parts and £70 from main dealer
 
Yes it's a central and two side pieces and a few fixings - probably save half the cost by swapping it out yourself compared to main dealer hourly rates.

Of the two exits to our office car park I have to "tack" across one or it scrapes - and the sound is not nice, being hard plastic, but is nothing of concern really.
 
thanks for replies, I'll worry less for the moment. I would have through some firm rubber would have been a better material.

Lunar - I'll try 'licking' it to lubricate it?(!)
 
Haha - yes that should do it! :lol:

Maybe a length of that reinforced edging strip you used to get on older cars to hold the door aperture trims on with would be good.

Of course if you scrape it too much you will lose the ground effects and no longer be able to hang upside-down like that :D
 
Mine has seen better days as well!
But that's what's its there for.
 
Sand it. A bit of coarse sand paper to take the burrs off and it doesn't look too bad. I've made mine last 7 years doing that at the end of every year so far.

I do need a new one now, but it doesn't look too bad at all tbh.

Exactly what I was going to say having read until your post :)
Coarse sandpaper on a block and back to perfect in 5 mins

I would not attach anything to it. As it is it scrapes and grinds and is a good reminder. Anything added or extra may grip the surface and rip pieces off. Then you have a proper repair job to do

It’s probably cheaper to replace the ‘deflector’ itself but I bought this stuff for my car and it’s really good. Had to ship it in from America. Cost about £90 but worth it as it’s very easy to apply.
Also, couldn’t help but notice your number plate because that’s where we’ve bought all our Jags! 👍

thanks for suggestion. There is a UK supplier now for this (https://ttw-installations.co.uk/sliplo/), but I don't think it will work/suit the F Type. I'm going to get something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392796477934 and see if it might look any better. The problem I'm having is, apart from needing to watch those tight slopes, is that so much of the car is in front of you, that I'm getting too close to eg: kerbs in parking bays. Scrapeing a bit of this plastic bit under the acr is no big problem against bashing the front edge of the splitter proper.

It’ll be interesting to see how you get on with this stick on strip. My thought is that it will just make the clearance less and may cause more damage. I scrape the front of mine every time I get home as there is a speed cushion before my house that is slightly too high and so narrow I can’t ‘tack’ to clear it. It will wear down over time so I’m not too bothered. Also, I only reverse park when out to prevent damage to the front, I used to have a SLK and paid the price for ‘nosey parking’!

Find a nice spot with a kerb, get someone to watch you into the bay nose first and tell you when you in the spot properly and then take note of where the kerb line sits in your window view.

That way, you can line the car up against any kerb in the future just by lining the kerb up as before.

My dad use to have a small piece of black tape on his windscreen for exactly this - when the dot was on the kerb, he knew he was in the spot perfectly.

Likewise, in the days before reversing cameras, my driving instructor had 2 stamps stuck to the rear window of his car to aid teaching how to reverse round corners and do parallel parking

I've found that the front sensors don't pick up kerbs, as they are loo high-up on the car - they seem to pick up any walls/shrubs on the pavement. This can give a false sense of distance.

My missus has an XC40 with 360 cameras, which are brilliant for seeing the front of the car in such circumstances.
 
The rubber strip has arrived and I've fitted - see photos. Not sure if it will be better, certainly hides the lite scuff on the bottom of the plastic for now.

I'm not sure I understand why you would fit something like that when JLR spent ages creating the exact size and profile of mouldings, balanced with ground clearance required, to get the undercar airflow, wheel arch pressure, etc. correct.
For sure you won't feel the difference, but it matters at higher speeds
