Leaper decal for the coupé spoiler

As posted in another thread, I wanted to add something underneath the spoiler and I'm not a fan of the common union jack decals. I wanted something subtle hinting that its a Jaaag when I zoom past other cars at spoiler up speeds so I decided to create a leaper decal. :)

The tricky things were to get it to look right from straight behind the car given that the spoiler sits at an about 45 degree angle, and to get it as big as possible on the limited surface visible from behind without having the head of the leaper disappear behind the lip of the spoiler.

I took a leaper graphic from the web, doubled its size vertically to compensate the spoiler's 45ish degree angle effect on the aspect ratio and got it printed in a bright colour on a transparent decal. The height of the leaper is about 13 cm with the leaper set as low as possible on the flat surface. Any bigger and the top will definitely be hidden behind the lip of the spoiler.

I'm not sure I'll keep it but like the looks so far. We'll also see how this holds up over time as moisture or dirt might creep in underneath through the grooves in the spoiler surface.

Not the best shots due to all the light and reflections but you get the picture.

If anyone else wants to have a go, here's the file I used for the print that I ordered from an online decal printer. Just a transparent image with a suitable colour for the leaper depending on the colour of your car. I'd recommend to keep the leaper no taller than 13 cm.

Fitting is obviously a bit of a faff and I still have a few small bubbles which only are visible up close. As others have pointed out it's easiest to open the boot a bit to be able to access the under side of the spoiler at a decent height.

Full marks for creativity there, although I wouldn’t say the F-Type needs to hint that it’s a Jag! :D

Jolly decent of you to share the Leaper file for anyone else who’s interested.

Hehe, it does actually happen that it's mistaken for something more exotic. Mind, mine's debadged and I only have the leaper and lettering on the spoiler so when the spoiler's up I like the idea of showing that that gorgeous car that flew by was a Jag and nothing else. :D

Sure does! Unfortunately can't have such an explicit plate over here although I have one with only numbers, including a Jag internal code.

Awesome colour and well done on the debadge btw. That's the way an F-type rear should look!

A debadged car looks ‘bald’ in my opinion!....each to their own as they say.

Here's my badged version.....no mistaking that it's an F-Type Jag!

Agreed. Many people debadge their cars to disguise the fact they've bought a poverty-spec model!

I never got the point of cluttering a great design with stuck on badges indicating some details about the model, engine or even worse trim package (M-sport, S-Line, R-Dynamic etc). In my book a proper Jag only needs a leaper or Jaguar lettering in the back, just like some early E-Types. But each to their own of course. :)

Err, does that include the bubbled leaper decal that now resides beneath your rear deployable spoiler? The one you’re hoping will show other motorists that you car is a Jag when you ‘zoom’ past them at spoiler up speeds?

Thankfully Ian Mc Callum and Julian Thomson’s books are not the same as yours! 🙏

The chrome F-Type and trim package badges (S, R, SVR etc) are class and don’t clutter the design in the slightest.

However, if you prefer the ‘bald’ look on your car, that’s fine :) .....

Nope, a discrete occasionally shown under spoiler leaper is obviously not included. Do you see the bubbles btw? Didn't think so. As said, I'll see if I'll keep it at all. Feels as a better option than the union jack decals anyways.

Yes there's lots of people who think badges at the back of cars are "class"...

... but something tells me Ian Callum isn't one of you considering the original F-Type design.

But fair enough, some of us prefer more visual clutter in our lives and some of us prefer less. :P

Your leaper decal experiment is included alright......and it's boy racerish/unclassy too! Shame you’ve tried doing it in the hope that motorists notice your car is a Jag when you ‘zoom’ past them! .....Glad I don’t have that problem!

As for seeing bubbles in the leaper decal, I’ve taken your word for it.....

You’ve said that you’re not sure if you’ll keep it at all.....if not and you want to try another experiment, I’ve attached a rear diffuser that you may be interested in (see 1st pic)

Glad I’m not one of those who thinks a ridiculous amount of badges on the back of their car looks good. Fair play to Ian McCallum, he designed the F-Type (which is the final production name for the C-X16) with so much class.

If you prefer less ‘clutter’ you could have gone for what is shown in the 2nd pic.... :P

Chill out RPSN, if you don't like it then fair enough but no need to take the p**s.
We all know customising is always a personal choice.

I’m chilled man!

So you don’t think that MajorTom was also extracting the urine???....Try reading through the posts again before you express your opinion!!

It’s not particularly my cup of tea but as I said earlier in this topic.....

Bloody hell, didn't mean to stir up any emotions here. :D RPSN, if you consider someone's opinion on car badges as extracting urine that's on you. Anyways, no offence, each to their own and at the end of the day every F-Type looks fantastic regardless of some OEM badges.

This reminds me of the two ring taxi Jags I saw last time I popped over to the ring. Both cluttery badges AND boyracerish leaper decals. Best or worst of both worlds! ;)

As a very small aside, on the topic of the badges, if you opt for the 'no badges' option when speccing an F-Type then Jaguar will still attach the F-Type badge to the left. The 'no badge' option only stops them attaching the model version to the right. It's no big deal to remove the F-Type badge if you want to, but it is worth noting in case you go down that road and get a surprise like myself.

In my case, I've left the F-Type badge anyway as it's in black and I have a dark paint colour (Portofino Blue), so it barely shows up.

Don’t panic, no emotions were stirred

However, your comments such as these deserved a good response....

My ‘extracting the urine’ comment was alternative terminology used in response to the following reply....

Yes, with regards to the OEM badges, each to their own. No offence but I’m not a fan of the ‘Kojak’ look on the F-Type ;)

Agreed, that’s enough 'verbal ping pong’ for one topic.

No more ‘baldies’ coming this way either!
