Jaguar Dealers and my rights

I dropped my car off this afternoon. Unfortunately there was still confusion about my booking.

1. The service job sheet did not mention that I have a 3 year service plan, despite me ticking the box on the online form. 🙄

2. There is still confusion about what services I might need to pay for. Specifically, transfer box oil and brake fluid. After much deliberation, transfer box fluid might be an additional cost. 🙄

3. The MOT was not listed on the service sheet. I selected that option when booking online. I'm glad I questioned it when I booked in today. 🙄

There appears to be a disconnect between the service booking data submitted online, and what the service department actually receive.

I've never had a problem there before, but I'm now worried about them doing a proper job!

I've emailed my concerns to the 2 different service reps that I've been dealing with.

P.S.
Sorry for hijacking this thread.

Is that Inchcape? When mine was in for a CEL for fueling issues, a leaky front diff, and a headlamp washer misaligned, they did the CEL (the fuel pump connector wasn't properly seated!) and the headlamp washer, but didn't mention the leaky diff. When I queried that, the guy said, "oh yeah, it's on the job sheet" and kept the car for the rest of the week to fix it. So yeah, they don't seem to read the job sheets very carefully. Car was great when I got it back, though! :d

Thanks for all the info.
Main dealer experience here is mainly quite negative then! Forewarned is forearmed. I'll stick with Harwoods this time but ask exactly what they do for their wedge. Price wise there's only £50 in it but I also want them to look at the cross braces plus the side window scratches. Not sure an indy will be able to help me there.

when i took mine in to Harwoods Crawley I asked them to check the cross braces for corrosion. I got a video showing under the bonnet!

I was told no corrosion present.

I phoned and said they were looking at wrong thing. No call back, got home to find car had been returned and key through letter box. 3 calls over 3 days got no reply.

Got pissed off so forgot about it for a while.

a few weeks later i went back, spoke to the service manager and e planned what i wanted, got a video saying badly corroded and needed replacement and wouldn’t be covered under warranty.

i explained the campaign number and was told that it was withdrawn 2 weeks ago.

i then reminded them that if they knew a bit more about what they were asked to look at they would have found the corrosion some weeks back and whilst the campaign was running.

after a lot of arguments and my implying that negative publicity highlighting their lack of knowledge wouldn’t do them too many favours, they agreed to do the job, supply the parts under warranty if I contributed £150.

I grabbed the offer as car was over 5 years old

Fair play to the service manager at Inchcape...

He just called to say that he investigated further into what should be done as part of 3rd fixed service... brake & transfer fluids ARE included FOC. 😁

He's also going to pass on my comments about their new online booking system (introduced during covid) regarding data from the online form not making its way to the service job sheet.

I think a lot of this is down to luck and possibly an individuals approach/demeanor perhaps.

I know of one owner that had a full set of new underbody braces on a car that was out of warranty, over 5 years old, without any corrosion, gratis.

For info - even if a bulletin is withdrawn, if your car falls within the criteria, the bulletin is still valid to be applied (words of a service dept manager).

I might take it all back. They cleaned my car inside & out after being asked not to! 🤬

The rubber strip that runs down the rear quarter window looks like it's been yanked out. I've put it back in place, but it doesn't feel that secure or watertight. 🤬

Have they updated my online service record. No. What about last year's, which I reminded them about twice this week. Like 🤬 have they!

I'll be sending a less polite email on Monday.

@scm... which indy do you use in Soton?

Foxtec Services in Paget Street, just down the road from the football ground. Don't be put off by the website, they're great car mechanics! No free coffee or courtesy cars, or flash shiny premises, but then you're not paying for them .... https://www.foxtecservices.co.uk/ ;)
