Trickle charging through jump posts

I just want to preface this by saying, this is not a long term solution but at the moment I have an trickle charger with an AGM cycle hooked up with the jump posts on my 2016 V6S.

The charger itself is displaying the the correct lighting but the car blinkers and trunk lid lights are blinking in a pattern... flash-flash, 3 seconds pause, flash-flash, 3 second pause, on repeat.

I haven't seen this behavior described anywhere else on the forum and was wondering if this is a) normal, or a b) a sign of a problem with the battery. The battery is fairly dead. The info screen says the battery is low, start the engine but there's not enough juice.

Thanks in advance.

Morning mate
I had a similar issue witht he battery on our A Class. Have you checked that the positive/negative terminals are sitting securely on the battery? My Neg one wasn't and it caused the Lights flashing in a pattern, not enough juice to start it etc and wouldnt hold a charge. Once id sorted that and the battery still wasnt holding a charge and i constantly got the battery low warning I bought a Ctek mxs5.0 smart charger as it has a regeneration mode which was my last hope before forking out around 400 quid on a new AGM battery, which would of been disappointing as the Bosch battery was only 3 odd years old.
Works a treat now 👍🏼

Yes, the alligator clamps are on firmly. I have them setup the same as I had the jump box. And, the lights on the trickle charge all indicate success. It's not a CTEK but it's a NOCO maintainer, which also has a repair mode, works with AGM, etc. I had it already for my BMW and didn't know about CTEK.

The battery, which is 2 years old tomorrow, has a 30-month replacement guarantee stamped on the stop. Going to try contacting the garage that put it in and get a copy of the invoice. Maybe they'll replace it.

You don't say the age of the car but if it's old the connections between the jump posts and the battery may be corroded, so you're not getting the charge to the battery. Try connecting the charger positive directly to the battery and the negative to a nearby ground and see if the issue persists.

Sorry mate I meant the actual positive/negative terminals on the battery itself, not the charging posts.
If they are n securely then and you have tried the repair mode on your smart charger then I'd try and get it replaced mate. A 2 year old battery should be fine

2016 V6S, first line. The connections to the battery itself look fine. I haven't checked throughout the car.

Just to tie a bow on this, all issues have been resolved. Battery was under warranty and they swapped it out for a new one no questions asked. Once the new battery was in the car started right up, but I found 2 new problems: Power Steering Assist was turned off and No Special Modes were available. So no Dynamic mode. Took it in and had them reset the BMS and it cleared up both problem. Car is running good as new again.

Thank goodness for that mate! I wonder if resetting the BMS would of solved the issue on the original battery, no matter though as at least you got a fresh new one 😉
Im glad you got it sorted 👍🏼
