Hello from a new owner in the south east 🍻

Morning guys

I'm a new member all though I've been following this excellent owners site ever since I started searching for what is my dream car a year ago 😀

I decided to finally pull the trigger when my 50th birthday was a few days away (last week) and it just so happened that the perfect car came up for sale in most of the spec I wanted so it was fate I had to buy it 😎.

I'm looking forward to it finally being delivered this week and thought I'd pop on here and join up and pick your brains on a few initial questions regarding cleaning, im the sort of anal guy who will clean it every week 😉

She is a 2018 F Type V6 R Dynamic coupe in Carpathion Grey with Sienna Tan interior.

What in your opinions is the best shampoo and polish for this paint? Also ive had the wheels re painted in gloss black to go with the black pack that's on the car, they were in silver as standard but I think the black really works well with the black trim although its all down to personal taste :D

Any advice greatly appreciated 🍻👍🏼

Chris

Welcome to the club! I can't give cleaning advice as I prefer driving to polishing, but there's plenty on here who can.

Welcome! Looks like you found an excellent example there. I'm biased but the Sienna tan interior is quite something. I have no particular tips about the cleaning products but wanted to mention one thing to keep an eye on unless you already have: the DRL issue that affects these facelift LED headlights.

Hi Chris,
That's a great 50th birthday present - looks spot on in that colour too.

I've found the Turtlewax Hybrid Solutions range good, particularly the wash and wax shampoo followed by a coating of their ceramic spray. It beads nicely and maintains a decent shine.

You could also try a high-gloss finishing product by Poorboys called Black Hole. It's for darker paintwork and although I haven't used it yet, it gets excellent reviews.

Enjoy F-Type ownership.

Cheers buddy, the Sienna Tan was the option that clinched it for me 👍🏼
I have heard about the issue that causes the lights strip to dim over time which then effects the indicator brightness which then can be an MOT failure?
The dealer said there's no dimming atm but ive heard there's no cure if that's still the case?
Even buying a new light will only temporarily fix it until it happens again, please tell me there is now so wonderful trickery that can alleviate/cure it 🙏🏽🤞🏻
Any ideas on the percentage of cars effected of the facelift models?

Thanks mate, i really got lucky with the paint/interior combo here, the only slight annoyance being it popped up on Auto Trader whilst i was on holiday in Crete, so my misses absaloutly loved the fact i was on the phone buying the car during our romantic break away 😄
But when the car comes up you've got to throw your hat in the ring, I said its fate playing its part 😉

I really appreciate the advice in the car care products, ll take a look at all those and get them ordered. Thanks again Sam🍻👍🏼

Looks like you’ve found yourself a beauty! Agree, wheels look fab with the dark grey body and black pack 👌

Cheers Martin, im a big fan of the black pack with the darker greys too, hence I haggled the dealer to throw in the wheel colour change which he kindly obliged to do.

I'm just counting the days until its here now 😎🍻

For more info about the DRL issue, take a look at the other threads about it on here. Nobody knows how many cars are affected but there are many of them so the advice to anyone picking up a used 1st facelift car with the LED lights is to take a very close look at the intensity of the DRLs. As also mentioned in the DRL thread, there's now a new version of the lights produced which presumably/hopefully doesn't have the same issue so a new light hopefully fixes the problem now.

People have been raving about Poorboys Black hole for ages but I wasn't that impressed with the stuff. It's been years since I used it now, but I used it a couple of times on my previous two Jags which were dark grey and black metallic. It added some shine like many other similar products but that was it. Its main purpose is to work as a filler filling micro scratches but I couldn't really see that it made any noticeable difference. Probably because my paint was in such good condition.

Thanks again for the advice mate.

I've just had a good read through the DRL thread (the one 19 pages long)
So as you say there does appear to be a newer and improved version of the headlight by Valeo which appears to of corrected the fading DRL, which is about blooming time!
Just out of curiosity how much do they cost? I did a Google search and it was quoting anywhere from around 2K plus so I didn't know if there is a trusted seller that everyone uses on here or its just a JLR fixed price?
Hopefully il have the car by some point his week so il have a good look at the DLR's then.
I'm having it delivered by the garage i bought it from (there extremely reputable thankfully!) It was being delivered on Friday just gone but the salesman got an hour into the 3 hour journey and unfortunately it threw up a fault light, he did a quick scan and it was a forward motion not detected 'or words to that affect' fault. Hopefully just a sensor as it could possibly be where the wheels were off to be painted and a sensor got knocked, so he had to turn back to get it diagnosed and fixed.
These things happen and he was really apologetic tbf.
Thanks as well for sharing your experience with the Poorboys Black Hole, il give that a miss and stick with the other recommended products, hopefully I won't have deep enough scratches to warrant using it either 😀

Well the car finally arrived, and this time without throwing a paw in the air on the 3 hour drive down from Shrewsbury to Essex!
She will be needing a good clean but at least she's in her new home safe and sound 👌🏻

Welcome to the forum. I am also from the south east ( Leigh on sea)
I am currently a year into ownership of my second ftype and absolutely love it!
As for cleaning products you can’t beat Gtechniq.
I have used their products for years and have always had great results!

Cheers mate, ive wanted and been hunting one down for 2 years, ever since I sold my 370Z
I'd never even sat in one until it got delivered yesterday 😄.
One quick blast around town and up the bypass and I was grinning like a kid on Christmas morning.
Thanks for the advice on the cleaning products, il take a look 👍🏼
Im in braintree so not a million miles from yourself, going to take it for a lovely sunny Sunday drive tommorow. Enjoy yours too matey 👍🏼

Beautiful car, welcome. I use Poorboy's black hole, it's good for any dark car and you can apply in direct sunlight. It hides swirls followed by some Poorboy's natty wax.
That really is as far as my car care goes. I much prefer driving it 😁
