First Impressions

Had my first F-Type for 5 whole days day now and thought I'd give an honest first impression. This is specific to mine.

The Good:

Starting up - I enjoy sharing this with my neighbours.

Sound - raw and puts a smile on my face EVERY TIME.

Driving - plenty fast in a straight line and feels well planted. Hides it's weight well (so far), but not pushed it in the corners yet. Pleasantly surprised how quiet and civilised it can be when desired (not much).

Exterior - beautiful from every angle. The metallic British Racing Green is stunning - when the sun's on it.

Alloys - 20" Gyrodyne in silver / grey, gorgeous. Haven't seen nicer.

Interior - black with red stitching and red seat belts, high quality, lots of leather and a really lovely, comfortable place to sit. A high quality GT feel.

Great seats (fully electric inc. memory). Really useful to set Mem 1 for driving position and Mem 2 for exiting / entering the car (seat fully lowered and back as far as it goes). Loads more room to get in and out over the seat bolster.

Ergonomics - all driving controls excellent. Climate controls nice.

Driver's display - top notch. Clear and all the required info.

Meridian base hi fi - pleasantly surprised. While not up to the bespoke Focal system in my Z4, I was expecting a lot worse. I'm probably going to live with it - for the time being anyway.

Heated steering wheel - nice touch. Works.

Cooled seats - great, can really feel it. Will be welcome when summer arrives.

Blind spot warning - brilliant. Love it.

Economy - 26.5 mpg so far. About what I expected.

The Less Good

Exterior - In the shade or just a cloudy day it looks muted and quite dull if I'm honest. Frustrating because the metallic green sings in sunlight. Maybe it will grow on me in time.

Trip meter - too springy. It needs a click each time you press it. Got a really cheap feel to it.

Heated seats - not hot enough. Z4 on max feels like sitting in a frying pan - toasty. Disappointed.

Infotainment - crap looking and barely functional. Setting up shortcuts is helping. Still in progress.

Interior - I love the red double stitching on black leather (seats and door arm rests only) but there's not enough of it. Extended stitching along the top of the doors, arm rest and dash must have been an option which sadly wasn't selected. Wondering if it's possible to at least replace the door trim for the same colour but with red stitching.

I knew this car didn't have the powered tailgate, and I remain disappointed it doesn't.

Overall First Impression

I know this is a bit of a cliché, but every drive is an event, and every time I park I look back because it's just drop dead gorgeous. Can't wait for my first road trip up and down the west & north coast of the Highlands in June and the Alps in late July :D

The niggles are minor compared to an overall brilliant package. Really happy I got this beast👍🏻

Good review
Just picking up on the heated seats, should be toasty . Mine had an issue on passenger side with a similar problem , nowhere near as hot as the drivers . Anyway, after a couple of failed attempts Jaguar finally agreed and put in a new heated element , not seen this much in the forum as a common problem but it does happen. I’d check each one a see if there is a a difference .
Cheers

Great tip Philb280. I'll try the passenger side first thing tomorrow. Thanks.

Really appreciate being part of this forum. So much knowledge and experience here.

Bear in mind that the heated and cooled seats don't use a heating element but Peltier cells and fans to supply the conditioned air through the leather. Don't expect them to be as hot as electric pads, but they should definitely be hot.

If it was mine i would at least concider a colour change on the red calippers . Not sure about Red and Green together

I think the red and green is fine.
Yellow goes with green better, but I always think the yellow ones are a bit too "look at me" for a more classic looking car like the F-Type, especially one in BRG.

Yellow makes it look like you really wanted carbon brakes but were too mean to stump up for them!

Haha, that too.

Colour's a personal thing of course, but i think the red works as a great contrast to the green. Paticularly knowing the red stitching and seat belts continues the theme inside 👌🏻

Plus everyone knows red brakes make your car go at least 10% faster ;)
