Finally taken the plunge!

After two XJRs (X300 and X308), two 3 litre XFs from new and a XE R Sport petrol (also from new) with nearly 8 years with the last, I finally have a F Type. All my previous jags have been great but this car is truly special… well worth the wait! :D

Congrats, looks stunning and ticks all the right boxes - V6S, RWD, facelift. Doesn't get much better than that. :)

Thank you all, very kind. Really pleased with the spec, I contacted the previous owner who had it from new and told me he bought it after a showroom visit to his local Jaguar dealer in Taunton. Cancelled order! Tornado wheels, pan roof, black pack, rear camera, climate pack 2 and performance seats were all on my list too… oddly no front parking sensors. I can reverse into tight spaces instead! 😂

Really odd with the front parking sensors. Why would someone leave that out on such a well specced car. In the pics it actually looks like it has front sensors in the lower air intakes.

I did wonder why too. Front sensors appear to be situated either side of the number plate when fitted. Definitely no beeping when I’ve got close to an object when parking. I’ve managed to get hold of an original brochure and they are shown as a cost option. Might try and get hold of the build list from the original supplying dealer.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Front sensors definitely appear to be there in your pictures. When you were testing the front sensors, did you activate them by turning on the switch on the dashboard? The front ones only activate if you've just been in Reverse gear and not exceeded 5mph (approx) or by manually turning them on. They don't come on automatically if you just drive up close to something in front of you.

Thanks, I need to take another look at it. When I looked at the camera/sensor screen last time it didn’t give me an option to activate the front.

How the front sensors behave seems to be model year specific. Can't remember now if there's also a setting which affects it but mine come on automatically when I get close enough to something. In fact they come on a bit too often and it happens that they come on when I'm in traffic and approach someone in front of me at a red light.

This is where the sensors are fitted on my car. Not sure though if the ones by the wheelarches are used with the other ones or only for the optional automatic parallel park function.

Thanks MajorTom. I only have the round discs in the front grilles, none by the number plate.
Just got hold of a TOPIx vehicle summary from JLR. Print out shows LESS FRONT PARKING AID on the right hand side towards the bottom. Guess it’ll have to be an aftermarket job or live without it. Anyone had them fitted and is it expensive?

On my MY2021 there is a setting in the menus that will activate the sensors when driving slowly (less than 6mph I think).
I've now turned that on, as having the front sensors activate when front-parking is more value than the annoyance of having them sound when unwanted.

I don't have the ones on the wheel arch in the pic above - maybe only for parking assist?

Yeah the wheel arch sensors must be for the parking assist function then. Probably the most useless option I have. Never needed it and actually tried hard twice to try it out but didn't quite get it to work. Much more of a faff than proper manual parallel parking.

Thank you EnglishPhil. I did, didn’t know about them until I spotted the car for sale on AutoTrader.
I live in Newbury near Donnington castle. You’re not far away then?

There's a setting, on mine at least From my iGuide:

The parking aid system can be set to activate automatically for when:

The vehicle’s speed falls below 10 km/h (6 mph).

Drive (D) is selected.

A transition to and away from Reverse (R) on vehicles with a manual transmission.

To enable the auto on feature:

Select the settings icon (1) to access the PARKING AID SETTINGS pop-up menu.

Select Automatic PDC ON.
