Coupé rear parcel shelf fixing pins

On the coupé, the rear parcel shelf is fixed at the forward end by two flimsy plastic pins. One of mine is broken off, and the other cracked. I believe it’s a common problem. What the easiest way to repair? Do I have to buy complete new side pieces? Or could I simply fit two new nuts and bolts, to replace the plastic pins?

I’d be inclined to try some black plastic bolts with washers, they will not be visible with the parcel shelf in place.

I just had mine done last week at Crewe Jaguar. They weren't covered under warranty so it cost me in the region of £45. Mines a 66 plate and looks a little different to that, but my parcel shelf/space saver would slip off on one side as the plastic pins weren't long enough. Hope this helps!

Job done!
I bought a 10mm X 25mm stainless bolt for 50p ~ the shelf above is just held in place with a few clips, and very easy to remove ~ bolt screwed in easily from inside, and fits perfectly with a smear of araldite ~ then a wrap with black self amalgamating tape.
Isn’t it great when a job turns out to be easy and cheap to fix?

Nice one Bob!

The trim which has the bolt in it, the lower piece, is that easy to remove? Got some tips please? I'm not with the car at the moment!

Hi Jimmy, I didn’t remove the trim piece that the bolt is fixed to ~ there was no need. If you unclip and remove the top piece, there is then enough room for you to screw the bolt through the hole from inside. The bolt was just the right size to cut a thread through the hole in the plastic left by the broken plastic piece.
I hope that makes sense?

No, the official fix it to fit a rubber grommet on each pin to stop the shelf sliding too far in either direction.

Hi 0161Jag, £45 at a Jaguar AD, that’s a real bargain! My local AD charges £220 per hour, with a minimum charge of £110.

I think the bottom line here is, the standard plastic moulded pins are not long or strong enough. I’ll see how long my new stainless bolt lasts, but at least it’s longer and stronger.

I've attached what they did for mine Jimmyrn85. Checking the pins, looks like what scm said. They've just added the washers! I did have a technician sit in the car with me, after about 10 seconds of driving he said "Yes, that's annoying! I know what you mean now. We mentioned this to them back in 2013"

Yeah, the washers stop the shelf from moving sideways and dropping off the pins - no need for longer ones.

I think there must be a slight variation in the trim or my trim is sagging ever so slightly. I have spacers, it still falls off. I think a slightly longer pin would cure it for me!
