Calling owners with factory privacy glass!

Privacy glass can be any level of obscurity.
However, the windscreen and front side windows can only be tinted to a certain level to be legal.
I'm sure somebody who has the OEM privacy will advise what level it is.
Places that supply and fit tinting film will also advise.

Privacy rear, No value given, had to rig a light behind it to see it, as its so dark viewed from outside. :shock: ,

Cheers for looking.
That’s a shame though ☹️

Edit...
AS = American Standard
AS1 = Laminated and at least 70% transparency
AS2 = Tempered at least 70%
AS3 = laminated or tempered below 70%

Hopefully one with Pilkington Glass will also show transparency

Haha, be nice if you can actually look though 😉
Although I suspect it will just show lower than 70.
Fitter reckons 20-35

You can easily see from the inside, no problem, but from outside its very difficult, you are aware this is a UK car and not American as people may be confused due to the AS3 marking on the privacy glass. My earlier post i had to put a strong light with a diffuser on it inside the car to see the markings from outside.

Yeh get that, I’ve had privacy an many cars and would have specced but was demo.
Looks like Jag use different manufacturers and hopefully pilkington will show actual rating not just 'below 70'
Guy on Facebook done it and looks too dark to me especially says it reduces visibility.

Shoot it from inside and flip the image! ;)

He got the image but unfortunately doesn’t show transparency just that it’s below 70%
Maybe another glass manufacturer like pilkington will show the actual level?

The front windscreen Pilkington glass markings (TRANSP. 70% MIN / AS1) on my UK car are identical to yours (apart from the black oblong box with the Pilkington cross symbol on mine). The side and rear glass is FUYAO (TRANSP. 70% MIN / AS2).

Photos were taken on different days and I put a sheet of white paper behind the glass markings to make them more visible.

The OEM privacy glass on my car’s panoramic roof is considerably darker than the OEM tinted windows. The FUYAO / AS3 glass roof markings do not include a transparency percentage (need to zoom in on the dark pic to see them and be able to read back to front lol).

I wouldn’t like anything similar to this on a few other sections of the glass as some have done (pics included), due to the affect it would have on driving visibility.

Some good info here......."Window Tint - Yes or No?"

Had a look at my rear window which is very dark the same as the Pano roof. No % shown here either just AS3 marked. Photo from the inside as it's not visible at all outside.

Thanks for looking guys and the useful comments and links. If any glass is going to show transparency it will be pilkington.
Research shows 20% to be the average for rear privacy from factory. So, given it’s already 70% then the 'extra' tint should be 30% to achieve the look I want.
However, it appears hit and miss unless you find a fitter with a light meter to try samples. Then you enter the even bigger minefield of manufacturers and whether to go ceramic etc...lol.
Doesn’t help my nearest fitter is 70 miles away

Nothing is ever simple is it 😬

Waking up this old thread because I've decided to tint my rear window, mainly to make the look a bit more consistent with the pano roof. I don't want to go too dark and would probably go for something like 35% but wonder how that would look in combination with the already factory tinted rear window. Does anyone have a rear tint and some photos of how it looks?

It didn't occur to me until recently that the rear actually already is more tinted than the other windows. From a distance it looks about as clear as the others but from up close one can see that it's covered in this pattern of black dots.

Hi MajorTom,

This is mine with factory-fitted privacy glass and pan roof.

I also had the rear-quarter windows done with the same opacity too.
