Winter storage - car cover

I received an indoor car cover a few weeks back, that I intend to use for the winter storage (in my garage).<div> </div><div>After washing the car this weekend I tried it on to make shure that fit and quality was ok, and I am very happy with both. The fabric is breathable with microfiber/fleece on the inside, so it will be very gentle (and protective) on the paint. More details can be found here: http://www.specialisedcovers.com/</div><div> </div><div>I ordered the Prestige+ product.</div><div> </div><div>It is also very easy to put on/take off, and for some battery maintanance, it is easy to just lift the cover up at the rear to get access to the trunk.</div><div> </div><div>Here are a few pics that shows the fit and how it looks (sorry for the poor quality of the pics):</div><div> </div><div><img src="http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Arne_TT/F-type/Car%20cover/cover1.jpg" border="0" /></div><div> </div><div><img src="http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Arne_TT/F-type/Car%20cover/cover2.jpg" border="0" /></div><div> </div><div><img src="http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Arne_TT/F-type/Car%20cover/cover3.jpg" border="0" /></div><div> </div><div><img src="http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t104/Arne_TT/F-type/Car%20cover/cover4.jpg" border="0" /></div>

Thanks Jagster.<br /><br />I do intend to keep this car for many years, and it's not my everyday car, so I hope it will still look close to new in 5-8 years time ;)

I bought the geniune jaguar cover similar price for my coupe<br />Not tried it out yet they say its tailor made to fit both the coupe and roadster ( they only do one size) I must say I do like the one that you have bought

I am not sure who makes the "genuine" Jaguar covers, as I am rather shure they don't make them them selves?<div></div><div> </div><div>I do know (or at least have been told) that Specialisedcovers makes OEM covers for several car manufacturers, so it might be that they are the ones making the genuin Jaguar covers as well?</div><div> </div>

I use the OEM Jaguar cover and it does a pretty good job. Looking at the label, they appear to be made in the USA from a fabric which stops sunlight from fading the paintwork However, there seem to be plenty about now from other specialist manufacturers, some are fleece lined and are listed as waterproof whereas the Jaguar one is showerproof. There are trees near us and the cover does a great job of keeping the tree litter off the car. Not looking forward to trying to clean it though - will probably just get another one!<br><br>Regards.<br><br><br>Scoobydoo<br>

The one I have is for indoor use only, but they do have covers for all kind of uses.</div><div><br></div><div>One important issue for me is that the indoor cover is breathable and NOT waterproof as I do not want moist to accumulate under the cover during winter storage.</div>

Indoor ones are ok. I wouldn't recommend outdoor ones though. I tried two on an S2000 I had years ago. One of them was insulated and waterproof which encouraged dampness underneath it and the alarm to go off all the time, the other breathable but still damp problems. The BIGGEST issue with outdoor covers is that they move. No matter how tight they fit they are made from fabric and fabric moves even slightly in any breeze or wind. This causes minute scratches on paintwork and eventually looks terrible.<br /><br />I would only look at indoor ones like the one above (I may look into one of those) and just thought i would share my experiences with OUTDOOR covers.

I think I may have spoken too soon about the OEM cover as mine has now succumbed to the elements - see picture below:-<br><br><br><img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/uploads/349/cover_2.jpg" height="700" width="393" border="0" /><br><br>A hole has appeared just where the 'sharkfin' aerial is. Strange that there are 'ears' for the mirrors to fit in but no such allowance for the aerial. I've reported it to a local dealer and attached the photo to show what has happened. They seemed unaware that accessories purchased at the same time as a car are covered by the same warranty ie three years. This cover is 16 months old - Jaguar want it back to check it over before considering whether or not to repair/replace it.<br><br>Anyone else had any issues with the Jaguar OEM cover on the coupe?<br><br><br><br><br>

I have used mine since mid October, but since it is inside a garage it is not affected by wind so it will not move arround.<div> </div><div>I have only taken it off and on when I have recharged the battery - which is just once a month. No problems, and still very happy with it. But I am looking very much forward to take it off and go for a ride. Last 20 days we have had temperatures between -12 and -20 celsius, so I hope it will be a bit warmer soon....</div>

Thats great to hear Arne, I am about to pull the trigger on a custom cover from the same place you got yours. Thanks for sharing!

I use the OEM Jaguar cover indoors and it is a good fit and good quality IMO, albeit pricey.<div><br></div><div>Personally from my experience I would not cover the car outside with ANY cover, they cause more damage than good. Far better to put the car under a car-port and allow it to breathe if you can. </div><div>Also any small particle of dirt trapped between the cover and the paintwork acts as an abrasive and scratches.</div><div><br></div><div>I found that covering the car with old cotton blankets, then covering worked wonders, but again, moisture tends to build up over time.</div><div><br></div><div>As far as a replacement for your cover, they must cover this as they haven't allowed for the shark fin in the cover design, by even placing a reinforced patch near the area on the inside for example - Not fit for purpose. </div><div><br></div><div>We have the convertible and it's a tight fit on that, so the coupe must be like wearying Lycra shorts two sizes too small....I would imagine <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" alt="Embarrassed" title="Embarrassed" /></div>

<div> </div><div>I am shure you won't be dissipointed. I got the advice from a member on another (UK) forum that also had used them, and he could not be more satiesfied.</div><div> </div><div>They are not cheap, but you get what you pay for - and the F-type deserves the best <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley2.gif" height="17" width="17" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" /></div>
