F-Type V6S 1 Year in - Now 2 years in

You will never hear of gear box problems on modern jags

That's because Jag now use the ZF gearbox, same gearboxes as BMW

Again, I can only go by my own experiences of owning both. Not sure if you've had bad fortunes with BMW's in the past, or just reading it on the internet. I've never replaced a major component and that includes probably 20 to 30 track days. I even supercharged my first Z4, went from 230bhp to 380bhp, again no issues with the drivetrain.

JLR group regularly come bottom when it comes to reliability surveys\results. Just google JD Power survey results.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to enjoying the car in the spring and early summer before selling on, then start my search for a coupe, hopefully prices will start to fall with the increase in living costs.

I'd say never judge a brand by just one car. My experience is also that BMWs are extremely well built and mechanically reliable.

When it comes to Jags I only have proper experience of rather modern ones. Before the F-Type I ran an XFS for four years and an XF 3.0 Supercharged for four years... both were my daily drivers, remapped and driven sensibly but often very hard. Both, and my F-Type so far (touch wood!) were very reliable.

I'd say the only thing that's worse in these modern Jags compared to the German competitors is detailed build quality if you scratch a bit under the surface. Things like body panel alignment, trim pieces coming loose, dodgy fitment of of rubber seals, rattly interior parts etc. Not a big deal and mostly easily dealt with. And above all it's all made up for by the other qualities these cars have.

Those reliability statistics/surveys mostly seem rather rubbish because they don't seem to represent actual reliability.

dont know were your getting your info from but jaguar do not use the dsg box and the expert i spoke to face to face was talking about audi and bmw dsg box , jaguar box is zf but not dsg ;)

You're correct in saying Audi use DSG, as do VW, Skoda etc, but you "expert" is incorrect about BMW using DSG, they use ZF boxes.

dct box what bmw use . and crap to https://www.bmwux.com/bmw-performance-technology/bmw-performance/bmw-7-speed-double-clutch-transmission-drivelogic/ their engines are rubbish not just the gearbox have a look on bmw forums engines full of carbon coked up same with mini why they use same engine as made by bmw , alright if you buy under warranty or from new but people who but the cars at 6 years old or older are snookerd any way you go back to bmw im sticking with what i know in JLR . bye

You're getting confused between DSG and DCT!!!

DCT is used on some older BMW ///M cars. It is a dual clutch system, but DSG are ONLY used by the VAG group. Designed by VAG in fact, whereas BMW and Jag by in ZF gearboxes.

I think JD Power surveys say more about owners than their cars. They've never asked me for my opinion, either! ;)

When i googled JD power results for the UK, BMW were consistently bottom , as follows:

2015 - 3rd from bottom
2016 - 4th from bottom
2017 - bottom
2018 - bottom
2019 - bottom

Can't find the JD power UK findings for 2020/21

How bad can that be !!!!????

Let me help you with that :)

2021 - " Land Rover Is the Worst Car Brand You Can Buy for Dependability 2021 J.D. Power Study Shows" - https://www.motorbiscuit.com/land-rover-officially-worst-dependability-2021-j-d-power-study/

oh and 2020 here: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/land-rover-is-the-worst-car-brand-you-can-buy-for-dependability/

Can someone please define reliability/dependability?

There's talk in these surveys about perceived problems reported by owners but how many of those problems actually have anything to do with how well you can depend on the car getting you from point A to point B? My understanding from other discussions on the reliability (!) of JD Powers surveys and such is that they contain loads of irrelevant data like reported problems with glitchy infotainment software, cabin rattles etc.
