Windscreen misting

Hi all, what should have been an epic long drive to South London and back last Friday ended up being a little frustrating :x
From start to finish whatever I did with the climate control system ( temp up and down, AC on and off, blower high and low ) I couldn’t stop the windscreen misting. Just read an old thread suggesting the issue could be one of a few sensors which drive the system.
Before I do anything has anyone else experienced the same issue? Is this a common fault as I remember it happened occasionally in my previous V6?
Or is it just me?

I won't say it's just you, but I've never experienced misting that didn't go away within a few seconds of running the car. I do always leave the climate control on Auto and my car seems to know how to behave without my intervention. The only time I touch the climate controls is to turn on the seat heating/cooling as necessary, or to activate recirculation if I'm following a smelly diesel.

Does your AC blow cold air? Other than a HVAC failure I'd consider checking the AC gas, giving the interior side of your windscreen a good clean and ensure there are no leaks or moisture behind the dash, footwell and carpets.

The best way to avoid moisture from causing the windscreen to fog up is by cleaning the windscreen regularly with an IPA based cleaner to cut through the grime, leave the AC always on including in the winter to dry up the air and the footwell air outlet on. I learned this years ago and it's made a big difference.

Thanks for the help chaps.

SCM, hoping it’s down to that sensor failing or gas now and not me!

Kev, I did try the heated windscreen which did work a couple of times but as soon as it automatically turns off the fog came back.

I’ll let you know

Cheers

First, check any DTC's (fault codes) and clear them properly to see if that helps. After I had a cracked windscreen replaced a couple of years ago, my auto wipers & de-misting didn't work. Fault codes for History Rain Sensor (B10AD-87) & Permanent Windshield Misting Sensor (B13C2-49) kept showing up. My local mechanic cleared the codes but the Windshield Misting Sensor code kept recurring. I ordered a new sensor from a well known auction site but then my Jag specialist cleared the codes properly. As well as clearing the code he had to cycle the ignition or something, I'm not sure what exactly. No doubt someone on here will be able to provide correct details. Anyway, once he cleared the codes, the problem was solved. So, hope this helps. If not, I've an unused Front Heated Windscreen Sensor BJ32-13D693 I could let you have for what it cost me, £11 plus postage.
