White Blotches on Carbon Fibre Roof

Totally agree with dbv6s, I would add that I’d phone and go in with an appointment to see the service manager, if you pop in on the off chance you might not get it sorted as quickly as you’d like...

I hope it goes well, would you please keep us updated...

So - I Called yesterday and after leaving a message was e-mailed back by service assistant saying they should have some "better news" for me by end of week.

Any news would be better news by the sound of things  They think if they ignore you will go away. Unfortunately confrontation is the only way to get things done. Emails are a waste of time, same with phone calls. They are always in a meeting, with a client, just popped out etc.
On a similar vein, I had a query with a new dashcam, so emailed the manufacturer, in China on Sunday & by 8am Monday they had replied to all my queries. Top class service, that's how it should be done

Informed today repair has been authorised - they need car for a week - did not say if new roof or repair and re-lacquer

to be fair as long as roof is returned as per mfg spec with no flaws then i don't really mind how the repair is completed

So update

Car went in as planned on 3rd February. Today i had a call from dealership. Body shop have realized that this is more than just a rub down of lacquer and re-lacquer and that a new roof will be needed.

Apparently the re-lacquer was within dealership approval limits but a new roof now requires authorization from Jaguar so a report has gone off too Jaguar for approval. Up shot is car will be at dealership a lot longer than a week now.

OK so far - now the bit that worried me - and i may have misheard this bit on the phone call.

The telephonist said that the body shop said the front screen and rear screen panels would have to come out to do the job and they had concern it may damage the structure of the car taking old roof off????!!!

maybe i misheard but i will call back once approval is given and ask if i heard correctly.

They sound like they dont know what they are talking about, the roof is only bonded in.
Pretty sure someone, maybe on the american forum fitted one to his coupe.

Like Tim said the roof is just bonded in, you can get wire between and ‘saw’ around the roof Pulling it out.

Fitted very much like a windscreen

A friend replaced his coupe hard top with a pan roof, nervous cutting into your own roof but it went well and looks like factory fitted

Thanks both,

like i said i may have misheard (was on hands free in car) so when i get the call back on update i'll question the comments

Either way Jaguar watch this forum. Believe me. You will get a positive outcome to this. They would not want bad publicity on something like this. You may even get a meal for 2 & a free umbrella.

Update - new roof approved and on order and i misheard about structural damage - said they would not do the job if they thought any damage would be done.

They did try rubbing down the roof and thought that the damage was now into the CF weave and beyond repair so new roof needed.

might be ready for next week if new roof arrives in time.

as of today - 21/02/2020 - the new roof is still on back order with supplier (jaguar i imagine)

dealership rang today and said still no firm date for delivery of roof

that's 3 weeks since car went in and two weeks since roof ordered - wondering now if to drop an e-mail to jaguar customer services and escalate

can't blame dealership now but imagine i am not top of the pile if a new roof has to be made from scratch - especially if it is unique to the SVR and they don't even make the cars anymore

If the dealership has rang you to give you an update then I’d say that’s good customer service and don’t see the need to escalate

Are you driving the car now or do the dealership have it?

Dealership still have it. I did escalate to jaguar customer experience - it isn't the dealership - they are doing a good job - it's jag themselves who now have the order to provide a new CF roof. My concern was that it could be on back order for weeks with Jaguar - they have to manufacture one from scratch by the sounds of it. Anyway Jag customer experience are escalating now.

Why can't they give you it back until the roof is available. Surely they have not removed the roof before receiving the replacement in. If they have which is unbelievable then they should give you a car in the meantime

To be fair they offered it back and i declined for the time being on the basis that if it was only a week or so then may as well keep it and do the job - i haven't asked but they may have rubbed down the CF roof to see if it was repairable with a re-laquer - i think that's when the body shop decided it was terminal and new roof needed.

i am also having 3rd year service and first MOT done at same time then (hopefully) already for the spring :-)

Well it's been a fairly long drawn out process but new CF roof arrived Friday and at last work has started on fitting. I can expect the car back later this week (subject to a service and first MOT being completed as well)

Been a month and a week now so really looking forward to getting the car back - just in time for a bit of nicer weather...

and at least warranty did it's job!

interestingly i noticed that a CF roof is not an offering on the new model range! unless i missed it on the configurator.
