White Blotches on Carbon Fibre Roof

Hello,

I have just noticed white blotches have started to appear on my carbon fibre roof.

It is a 2017 SVR so still in manufacturers warranty.

Should this happen and would it be covered by Warranty

i have taken photos but they don't show up to well on camera but the issue is pretty much identical to this BMW thread i found - although the blotches on my SVR are worse than this example and pretty visible

Only thing that's happened over last 3-4 days is car has been outside and got fairly well covered with autumn leaves as we have a lot of trees surrounding the house

Sometimes, the quality of lacquer isn't up to scratch and the UV light reacts with something that may have fallen on the surface.

Be very, very gentle with something like Meguiars Scratch X or perspex polish and a new micro fibre towel. Afterwards, coat with some Carnuba paste ot better still some Gtech Quartz Serum.

It's not like the old days of Vim or T-Cut and turtle wax...the surface coatings are 'waffer' thin!

If your still in warranty then I’d be taking the car in, as TEL said the layer is so thin these days I wouldn’t risk having a go myself

Take it is, see what they say?

(FYI The panel can be replaced, don’t let them tell you otherwise!)

try a light polish of autoglym

I see on another couple of threads you have posted several times a minute apart yesterday.
You do realise if you remember something else, you can just go back and edit your original post to add it?
Just tap on the pencil above your first post to edit it.
Likewise on another multiple post you did you can delete the posts if they are no longer relevant ?

Hello Phil ... thanks for the heads up, all noted :)

So the dealership has taken photos and will be sending the report off - told me not to expect a quick response - 3 weeks

Not to concerned about the wait as long as job is done - photos attached from various parts of the roof

At least it’s being looked at, replacement panel should do the job unless they want to try polish etc

must be quite a job to replace the panel? would have thought all interior trim covering roof would have to come off as well as any sealant / seals

I’ve not done it myself but I’ve seen it done - panel is just bonded on, drop the headliner, relatively simple but it’s not quick and is pricey

so just over 3 weeks have passed and haven't heard a thing from dealership - rang them up today and person dealing with issue on holiday now until new year - in meantime blotches have got worse

Certainly looks like air behind the lacquer problem. Definitely a full replacement as I cannot see them sending that to the paint shop

Still no response - will give it to end of week then email Jag - is there a particular e-mail i should use for warranty issues

I have [email protected] as an e-mail (this is the UK customer relationships e-mail address)

Maybe threaten to post the pictures somewhere that will go viral. Maybe make them sit up & sort out your problem.

Bit excessive in my opinion. Why not just go back into the dealership and escalate?

Cars under warranty, shouldn’t be an issue
