Which Stoplock is recommended for the FType.
I thought it would be easy to fit my 25year plus trusty Krookloc but it doesn’t fit the deeper section wheels.
Seems lots of choices from the Stoplock Pro Elite down to some cheaper versions.
Warning : Several on eBay with just one key. They post the lock and then turn up one night with the second key as they have the shipping address!

I have the Milenco High Security Steering Wheel Lock. It’s solidly built and fits nicely onto the steering wheel without too much fuss. I place it at the side of the passenger footwell before driving and it doesn't get in the missus' way when she's in the car.

“The Milenco High Security Steering Wheel Lock is designed to exceed the Sold Secure Gold Automotive standard - it is two-and-a-half times tougher than the Thatcham Standard. With its high security keys, innovative design and versatility to fit over 90% of steering wheels, the Milenco High Security Steering Wheel Lock offers unparalleled protection for your vehicle.”

“Milenco High Security Steering Wheel Lock is one of the strongest and most secure steering wheel locks ever made for motorhomes, camper vans and cars. It has an innovative design that allows easy fitment in just a few seconds. A geniously-engineered Steering Wheel Lock to protect your car and motorhome from theft.”

“With hardened steel construction to resist from sawing and freezing, the Milenco High Security Steering Wheel lock has exceptional quality features which include the best pick-proof, and ultra-high security with built-in locking mechanism in a steel casing. The locking mechanism has been re-engineered, making it far easier to line up and consequently much easier to fit.”

I've got one of the Stoplock models on mine. It's more for my own psychological peace of mind than anything else. I usually slide the lock beside the passenger seat when it's just me driving - not ideal but it mostly stays wedged there.

Thanks 👍

Don't forget not to point any handles up over though.

I wouldn't have given it a second thought until I saw the post on it, when the steering wheel automatically moves up when entering the car.
Don't want it going through the windscreen lol

Doesn’t the steering wheel move up as you exit the car - before you’ve put the lock on.
And only back down once you’ve removed it and are back in the seat.

I have a Stoplock Pro which does fit around the spokes on the F type steering wheel.

I don't think it he robustness of the device is any guarantee, as it would be easier to just cut through the steering wheel with a rechargeable jig saw anyway if someone wanted to.

I read somewhere that the best angle to fit is with it pointing down making entry and exit difficult, as a thief wouldn't want a quick exit hampered.

Stop loc pro elite here. It’s a bit big, and the clasp just fits around the side spoke of the wheel just behind the flappy paddle.

I fit it this way because when the stop loc is over the spoke, even if you cut the wheel each side of the clasp, the spoke will prevent removal. It would be hard to cut the spoke with the loc in place.

I’m going up Halfords tomorrow to see which fits best. The right determined person will get any lock off in a couple of mins so really deterrent only.
However storage is a concern, especially in the tight cockpit. The Pro Elite appears the best reviews but the large bend means storage tricky.
I was hoping to store behind the seat and the milenco appears could fit there.
Only issue with the milenco is the need to turn the wheel 90deg

Mine is probably the pro elite. It lives in the boot,

I bought some velcro strips (B&Q) to stick on the box/bag to grip the carpet and prevent it flying around (don't want a big lump of loose metal in the front). There's also a piece of foam jammed in the u clamp to stop it rattling.

Only if you have it set to Auto. Mine stays where I put it.

Keeping it in the boot when not fitted is the right thing to do. It’s where mine lives To your point, In the event of an accident, you don’t want 5kg or more of unsecured metal flying around.
Lesson 1 of off roading where fire extinguishers, shackles, tools, etc become lethal weapons inside the cabin, when the going gets tough..

Great tip on the velcro and foam shoved into the u-clamp, I think I shall copy that and move mine to the boot from now on.

Although mine does often (though not always) work its way loose from the side of the passenger seat and into the passenger footwell, I guess my mental gymnastics worked on the principle "If I'm in an accident serious enough for this to go flying, I don't think I'm going to be in any fit state to give a monkeys". Not quite the right attitude I know!

Brake hard and it’ll fly forward fast enough to potentially injure a passengers legs. Roll over and all the airbags, roll hoops and restraints will just hold you steady and safe, while loose objects behave like rocks in a tumble drier :(
You do right though to keep it in the boot

How do you avoid damage to the leather on the steering wheel when using the stoplock? I scratched mine the first time :( . Tried pipe insulation but was a bit unwieldy, a rag isn't easy to keep in place. Any better ideas?

This is how I fit the Milenco High Security Steering Wheel Lock. I lock it around the steering wheel spoke which doesn’t have the buttons and gear shift paddles behind as it’s very tight that way and could damage them. The position of the car’s road wheels is slightly to the right which isn’t a problem.

I keep the steering column control in the manual position (photo number 3) as this prevents automatic movement of the steering column on entry and exit from the car. I have no issues with this.

Before driving, I place the Milenco against the side of the passenger footwell and even if it moves (which isn’t that much) after some spirited driving/braking, it’s in a confined space.

The Milenco is a different design to the traditional Stoplock and it doesn’t cause any damage to the material on the steering wheel.
