What's the difference between a V6s and v6 r dynamic?

My understanding is that the V6S is the more powerful 380 BHP engine and comes with many upgrades such as LSD and bigger brakes, whilst the R Dynamic is a trim level for the base v6 car of 340 BHP.
However JLR like many manufacturers are prone to a bit of badge engineering and special editions, so I’d look up the spec. of any particular car you ‘re interested in. It also appears that they change the spec by year..
The top v6 is the 400 designating more powerful and sound is more related to software changes, use of exhaust button where fitted and MY than engine output.

For clarity, the R-Dynamic covered both the 340 and 380 variants, at least in the final year of production
EDIT: That said, they were badged P340 or P380, rather than V6 R Dynamic, so the comment by cj10jeeper may still be valid. My knowledge on all the models, throughout the years, is pretty much zero!

You’re 100% correct here’s I’ve just thrown in a couple of reg plates on compare the market and some come up as 340 and 380 versions so you defo got to look for which model you’re buying.
I’ve seen the 2019 models on auto trader for r dynamics have a gpf filter installed so I’m staying anyway from them. I’ll try aim for a 2017-18 plate r dynamic car only as I defo want the drama with the car.
But if anybody has anymore insight I’d be more than grateful.

Correct. R Dynamic is just a rubbish name for a trim package which was available for both the 340 hp V6 and 380 hp V6S, as well as the P300, later V8 versions and other Jaguars. It's similar to BMW's M-sport, Audi's S-line and Mercedes AMG trim packages. Just disregard whether it says R-Dynamic on F-Types you're looking for because it obviously doesn't say anything about the engine.
Mine is a V6S R-Dynamic and it only had F-Type and R-Dynamic badges on the back before I got rid of them.
The 400 is exactly the same as a well specced V6S with a slightly different map with 20 more horses at the top end and yet another trim/badging package. The V6S/400 cars usually have more options than the down tuned base 340 version and come with two features that no 340 came with (wasn't even possible to add as an option AFAIK): the adaptive suspension and LSD (only in RWD cars though). Together with the power difference that apparently makes for a marked difference in the driving experience between a 340 and V6S/400. So if you want the most fun and features you should get a RWD V6S or 400, and preferably one before MY19 when the particulate filter was introduced.
