What cars did you have before the F-type?

This week, while parked outside a local hotel waiting for a company client from overseas who asked me if I'd take him for a short drive on the F-type, a fine gentleman probably in his 70s went around the car inspecting it carefully a few time before saying hello.

He said he was very intrigued and attracted to the car and started asking everything about the specs, etc. He then pointed to his fine Maserati GT V8 nearby and we engaged in a short chat about cars. He went on to tell me a rather impressive list of cars he had including an SKR, DB9, Vantage among other before the Maserati!

So I thought I'd start a thread here so members could list the cars they had before the F-type and what models theyo like to own in the future if anything.

Here's my list

1985 Ford Del Rey
1994 Fiat Uno
1999 GM Corsa
2001 Vauxhaul Corsa
2010 Vauxhaul Corsa
2012 Vauxhaul Meriva

In over 30 years of driving, this is the sum-total of my personal car ownership:

Vauxhall Viva
Triumph Dolomite
Peugeot 106 GTi
Nissan 200SX
Mazda 3
Jaguar F-Type

I've owned a few more as business cars, but those are the only ones I've owned 100% personally. I had the Nissan for 12 years from new.

Well I came from a Maserati GT V8 and you can tell the chap that has one that the F Type is a vastly superior car in every way! It is faster, corners better, rides better, better gearbox, better seats, better stereo, better climate the list goes on.......beautiful car though the Gransturismo...

I have always admired the Maserati GT V8 - mentioned above by @ratbag - but probably pleased it didn’t arrive 🤔
Also, always fancied trying a variant of the 911 but that’s another one which never landed in the fleet 🙂
Triumph TR6 maybe, yet to come?
Bristol?
Monteverdi?
Iso Lele?
Aston DB4 Zagato?
Ford GT?

Very interesting read of where we came from and evolved in the ownership cycle

Here's my 50 years. Might have forgotten a few:

Personal/Family
Mini ’63 (£50)
Austin A40 (yes, really (£30 runabout whilst I modded the next Mini 😊)
Mini Cooper (wildly modded car)
Renault 12TL (don't ask)
Ford Cortina Mk4 1.6L
Ford Escort 1.3 Ghia (first brand new car)
Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia
Vauxhall Cavalier CDi
Volve 460 GLE
Saab 9000
Ford Explorer 4.0V6 '98 (Pile of crap with a good engine)
BMW X5 3.0d (Awesome car 10 years and 100k with zero issues)
Jaguar XF 3.0 twin turbo (fast, comfortable, economical)
RR Evoque 2.0 HSE
*BMW iX3 M Pro

Second / Hobby cars
Ford Fiesta 1.1L
Fiat Uno
Peugeot 205 Roland Garros
Peugeot 206 GTi
BMW Z4 3.0 roadster (loved it and kept for a decade)
*Jeep CJ10a 5.9 V8
*Jeep Wrangler 4.0 Sport
*F Type 3.0 V6S

* Currently own them

Next car? Well, the Ferrari Roma is on my wish list as is the new Aston Martin Vantage. Reckon both will have dropped significantly in value over the next 2 or so years making them a possibly buy.

Ford Fiesta Popular
Renault Clio RT
Peugeot 306 Dturbo
MGF vvc
Golf v6 4 motion
S2000
BMW 750iL
Ford Mondeo Ghia
S2000
Jaguar XF
Jaguar F-type v6 S
Jaguar F-type v8 R awd

I've not been alive long enough to have a long list like some of the above...

2000 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CD - 2008-2010 (£800 first car that cost me £2200 to insure)
2009 Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec - 2010-2012
2006 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro - 2012-2014 (Until I wrote it off)
2014 Ford Focus ST3 - 2014-2014 (After waiting 3 months I hated it and ditched it within 4 months)
2014 BMW 330D M Sport - 2014-2017
2001 Peugeot 106 - 2017-2017 (Stop gap whilst waiting for new car order)
2017 VW Golf R - 2017 - 2021 - (Longest I've ever owned a car)
2021 Mercedes C43 Wagon - 2021-2022 (Sold it for the same I paid 1 year later thanks to Covid prices :D)

Sold the Merc as I started a new job with a company car, so had a few rentals whilst waiting for my order. Everything from a Ford Ranger (loved it), MG HS, Ford Focus and a Citroen C3 Aircross (worst car I've ever driven).
Eventually got the company EV which meant I could stop compromising on hot hatches and fast estates and go for a impractical sports car.

2022 BMW iX3 - 2022 - Now (Company car)
2015 Jaguar F-Type R - 2023 - Now (I swore off spending money on fast cars but only lasted 2 years before I cracked)

As far as what I would like to own... realistically...

I would love a Vantage still. I chose the F-Type over one and given the choice I would again, but I think I will have to eventually scratch that Aston itch one day. The DB9 was the poster car for me as a kid, but as an adult I prefer the Vantage.
I also had a big thing for the B7 RS4 but I don't think I'll ever get to that one.

Outside of that I'd like the experience of a Porsche 911 and maybe a V10 R8.
