Saw this in a recent news item. Expected but still another cost.

My reason for posting, appears some of you whose cars were registered in 2017 paid the last of the ‘luxury car tax’ last year. My car was registered Nov 2017 and I’m looking at another payment this november possibly the following November as well.
I’m confused how it works but anyway I can save a years LCT is a bonus.
So what if I SORN the car for a month then text it for the year. Could this potentially allow a annual saving on LCT.
Pondering only, confused definitely

Not sure you're correct about this year being the last year for a 2017 "Luxury car tax". If you read the wording, it's very sneaky, it's actually "£320 will be payable from the second time the vehicle is taxed for up to 5 years". So in reality, you have to include the first year tax, then 5 subsequent years, so 6 years all in which takes you to 2023 before you drop to the flat rate of £140.

They should put it up to £5 grand a year for all cars , roads would be quiet :)

And £50 for a gallon of diesel £5 a gallon for petrol and pensioners get free cars and fuel for all the hardship they endure in today's society

Most of the Baby Boomers I know have never had it so good. I’d tax them a bit more to give us grafters an easier time 👍😄

What!!!
Nothing on the road but Honda Jazz's with little grey haired bumps just appearing above the steering wheel, all bumbling around, cutting roundabouts and and being unpredictable.....
Sounds like my view of hell especially while "trying to make progress" in a F Type.

As for VED, it's easy with an older car. The government just rapes me of £600 every year for the previledge of playing dodgems with the pot holes.

Rants over, suns out, relax.

Haha we don't have pot holes up here we have mines they are that deep and this shower who run jockland won't spend the money to fix them , on a side note if petrol was a fiver a gallon at least it would get all the rust buckets off the road lol

;) My next car could be electric :o ..............a Mobility scooter.
Until then i have my F Type. :D

If it was a fiver a gallon we would all be VERY happy 😃

Agreed..

Just seen a line at Morrisons for fuel as a few articles indicating a potential tanker driver strike and out come the hoarders

Wouldn't even start until April

Why would cheap petrol get rust buckets off the road?

Not this again! I wish people would learn from last time. There was only a shortage because of these people. Petrol isn't that shelf stable either, about 6 months max if you have a container open. A year max if it stays sealed.

I've just had my renewal which spans the annual LCT cut-off. Seems they reduce the amount after the LCT expiry date, so there's no saving to be had by being "clever" with moving the renewal date (apart from saving the tax if you SORN it).
