V8 manual

So theoretically, assuming no restriction on funds, it should be possible to manual swap the V8? Given the bell housings are the same on V6 and V8 the gearbox should fit, and the clutch pedal mechanism should be possible to do as well, based on retrofitting the V6 clutch pedal.

One thing I don't know is the RWD or AWD question - are all the V6 manuals RWD? Or would either work?

I'm guessing the electrics would probably be the most difficult bit to sort, to tell the V8 ECUs that it has a manual box. Plus actually sourcing the parts....

Might give Tom Lenthall a call. Can imagine it would be £££ but you could make a bit back from selling the ZF8.

I can confirm that all manual V6 cars were RWD. My local Jag specialist mentioned earlier this year that a lot of people pay a substantial amount to convert their F-type into manual so I know it's doable but I don't have more details.

Given that there were a lot issues with the clutches on the V6 manuals I'm not sure how it'd cope with the power of the V8.

That's true for the early models. All problems got sorted when Jag fitted gen 4 of the clutch from 2017 onwards.

Interesting - I hadn't heard of anyone doing a manual swap for the F Type before. Good point on the clutch - I'm guessing you'd have to think about having an uprated clutch plate built aftermarket perhaps, unless the newer versions are considered strong enough.

I'm going to investigate further...

Interesting theoretical swap. Aside the electronics which are mentioned I think you'd need to do a lot more:
Increase the capability of the box from a V6 and ability to handle the power and torque to that of the V8.
Check the capability of the rear diff and likely change it's R&P ratio from that of an auto to manual. if LSD look at the clutch plates or locking mechanism
Include a CDV in the clutch to protect the system from shock of overly rapid gearchanges vs relative smoothness of auto
No doubt a good few other bits like mounting brackets, exhaust routing, under floor panels to change.

I've done a few big drivetrain changes but on Jeeps with much older and heavier engineering, less electronics and the initial project has always grown out of all proportion. Last one was a straight 6 on a Jeep to a 5.9l Small block Chevy with different gearbox transfer case, props. diff ratio, etc. End result is great for what it now does, but never again :(

Simpler was change of a Jeep transfer case from 2:1 to 4:1 low (crawl) ratio and that spun out a dozen driveline strengthening requirements once exposed to real world use..
