V6s Vs P450

Hi all.

Anyone gone from V6s to a P450?

Thoughts on worth it or not?

Driveability between the 2?

Is there much difference or not?

Costs, so fuel, servicing etc?

Thanks

Hey Kev,

I went from a MY16 V6S to a MY21 P450 but had an RS in between so it’s a bit hard to remember a direct comparison. I also went from a convertible to coupe which of course has its own differences. However I would say:

Both make a great noise - the exhaust pre the filter in the V6S was definitely louder but the P450 with the fuse pulled has a great V8 rumble which I probably prefer.

Neither great on petrol but definitely more scope to drink it in the V8 with a heavy foot. That said I can get 30MPG being gentle on a long run which isn’t bad considering it’s a 5.0

On handling - I am no Lewis Hamilton and as I said having the TT makes it hard to remember exactly. However the P450 definitely needs some respect in the wet etc as it’s quite happy to spin the back wheels at all sorts of speeds. Makes a much more engaging drive though!

Not had the P450 long so don’t really know about servicing costs but expect them to be too different.

Tech definitely seems better in the P450 which is good.

Overall, I loved both cars (which is why I sold the RS and came back) as in my view there is really nothing else comparable for the price. However the chance to have a V8 given they are all disappearing in the car world + being able to remap it back to the 575 if you get bored was the deciding factor.

I had an early V6S for 3 years, sold it in 2023, bought a Supra, then moved to a P450 last July. Both convertibles and RWD.

Few of points from me.
- Facelift car is much better put together (early F-Type's are a disaster, or at least mine was).
- Facelift looks much fresher in and out. Love the digital dash. The pre-facelift cars are starting to age now from the front. Funny, as I hated the facelift when it first came out.
- With that said, the 2018-2019 has the best F-Type front bumper out there.
- V6S was louder for sure and I loved the sound 80% of the time, but sometimes sounded too raspy. V6S makes a wider array of noises. V8 is more monotone, just gets louder. The V8 rumble pips it though.
- Both feel and look super special, but the V8 pips it.
- Very little difference in running costs, insurance, tax, fuel, servicing. RWD vs AWD will have a bigger factor in the servicing costs. If anything the V8 is more efficient on a long steady run, but really bad around town, REALLY bad.
- Neither are sports cars, but the V6S was more engaging to drive thanks to its hydraulic steering (early cars) and shorter gearing. I've love to have that gearing in my V8. V6 begged to be driven hard, V8 has a lazier nature. No difference in outright handling, both barges. Looking forward to getting PS4S on my P450 next week.
- There is a performance difference, but it's not huge. More than enough for the road and RWD keeps things entertaining and lively.

Drive both, you won't be disappointed with either. For me, given it's probably my last petrol weekend car, I wanted the V8 and facelift model. It is a shame they didn't carry the V6 over though.

Interested to hear others thoughts.
