V6/V6S Coupe or Convertible best for noise?

Hi,<div><br></div><div>I'm looking for a car and my main requirement at this time is to have an automatic the great sounds of pops (on upshift) and crackles (on overrun). My sensibly priced and practical option is a Mini Cooper S with the JCW Pro exhaust, which does sound good for a 4 cylinder engine, well priced, 5 doors, fits well in parking spaces, more economical etc.</div><div>However I tried out a Jaguar F-Type V6S Convertible and this thing really was another step up! So I'm tempted to for-go practicality, economy and budget... <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" /></div><div><br></div><div>Anyway, before I head out and test drive lots of different variants (which tend to be scattered about rather than just at a single local dealer), I'd like to see if I could get some answers from current owners...</div><div><br></div><div>I drove the V6S convertible with the top down, and the sound was amazing with the active sports exhaust on loud mode, with the pops, bangs and crackles all down the street which completely make the driving experience for me. With the roof up, I noticed they were no where near as loud (sound insulation and no noise piped into the cabin I guess - unlike say an Audi TT coupe which sounds loud in the cabin until you open the windows and wonder where the noise has gone!)</div><div><br></div><div>My question is, compared with the V6S auto convertible with the top down, and also with the top up, how does the sound compare for:-</div><div>- V6S auto coupe with active sports exhaust on, windows closed</div><div>- V6S auto coupe with active sports exhaust on, windows open</div><div>- V6 (340bhp) auto coupe with optional active sports exhaust set to on, windows closed</div><div>- V6 (340bhp) auto coupe with optional active sports exhaust set to on, windows open</div><div>- V6 (340bhp) auto convertible with optional active sports exhaust set to on, top up</div><div>- V6 (340bhp) auto convertible with optional active sports exhaust set to on, top down</div><div><br></div>I'm guessing that without the optional active sports exhaust, the car will be the same as driving with the active sports exhaust set to off. (Which unfortunately for what I'm looking for would rule it out, unless it can be retro fitted for reasonable cost).<div><br>Also, can the convertible roof be operated remotely using the key? Given how wide the car is and how long the doors are, it might be a useful feature to have to get into the car when you find someone parked a bit too close to your car. (Had this problem before with big coupes since I park in a car park every day, but other cars have shorter doors or a boot!)</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks<div><br></div><div><br></div>

I haven't tried your variants but I did take out the v8r coupe and even that had nothing on my v6s convertible for sheer grin making crackle. That said for me the coupe does have the better sound in tunnels. Jess

<div><br></div><div>I'm assuming that the V8R would be louder than even the V6S? If that is the case, then it would seem from your experience that I might be potentially restricted to the convertible...</div>

I drive a V8R Coupe and had a V6S convertible on loan for a few days. With the top down the V6 noise is everywhere but I found much less crackle and pop than the R. Is is quite a different sound....so worth trying them all yourself. V8 is probable louder in absolute max terms whereas V6 is louder through a wider rev range <edited><editID>Snapper</editID><editDate>2015-12-14 13:35:24</editDate></edited>

I agree with Snapper, the V6S convertible produces less crackle, but boy when you put the roof down and go through a tunnel its no longer fat smiles...its a whole different emotion, that over excited great feeling like when you were 12 years old on your bike bombing down a steep hill, WAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Well...I do.<div>Tough choice JC74, as the coupe is a beautiful Jag and the acoustics are pretty awesome...the convertible is a lot of fun, 2 cars in one, think of those sunny days, roof down and having that Big Cat growling, popping and crackle in "surround sound" sheer bliss...but hey, Im biased as I have the V6S convertible.</div><div>Anyways Im sure which ever decision you make your gonna have a lot of fun from the F-Type. Enjoy the journey getting there.</div>

Just been in a V6S Coupe, and it was loud but not as loud as the V6S convertible. It definitely looks a lot better. Hmm tough choice, but fortunately I'm not in a hurry so I can take my time...

The active sport exhaust option is only to be noisy in normal mode in slow traffic. Active exhaust is anyway installed, it automatically activates at high revs. It is also activated in Dynamic mode. So I did not take the option as I always drive in Dynamic mode 😁.

BRILLIANT VIDEO David!!!!! Was pissing myself!!!!<img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" /> The F types exhaust do sort of look like trumpets or trombones!!! Cant stop laughing....

I reckon that the video has clearly proven that Jaguar have wasted their development budget doing the 'active exhaust' tech wizardry.<br>All they really needed to do was to offer an in car trombone as an option.....factory fit, mind...None of that aftermarket trombone stuff, like those guys clearly have, in that old VW.<br><br>Jaguar...come on!...What were you thinking?!! <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue" title="Tongue" /><br>

Jaguar could have offered the integrated trombone exhaust with something like a Trunk Monkey.<br><br>...like a 'sound and security pack' ;-)<br><br><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Rx6WB5YJia8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br>

Haha, that's great!<br><br>Now just need to find a musical mate who doesn't mind sitting in the car all day and night waiting for me to start it up <img src="http://www.ftypeforums.co.uk/images/converted_files/smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" /><br><br><br><br>
