Used 2016 F-Type S - Options and Packs Ordered When New

Hi all,

No sooner I've joined and now asking questions!

So...the dealer I'm buying the car from is not a Jag dealer, and I haven't collected it yet. And he doesn't have the original invoice/spec, so I don't know exactly what my car has, other than what's apparent from things obviously fitted.

So for example, I'm pretty sure it has the climate pack, because the heated steering wheel button is there, as is the heated windscreen. And it has the performance seats, so I guess that means the extended leather. And it's got Meridien 380W (because the speaker badges say Meridien and don't say Meridien Surround). And I think also because of that, it will be the InControl Touch rather than the Touch Plus.

So re the incontrol touch...the brochure talks about being able to set the climate control and start the engine from the app. And then it caveats it with asterisks and 'In Certain Markets'. Do the UK standard ones have that remote start function? Or any phone app support at all as standard?

Also, re the head unit...how do I know whether it's a mark 4 system? Or before? And I presume from what I've read that Apple CarPlay is not available with an upgrade for anything of this age?

Was there any difference between the MY17 (which I presume mine is) and the ones before? I think it was MY18 that some major changes were made, which it won't be of course.

I was also wondering if, like BMW, there's a website where you can enter the VIN and it tell you exactly what the specs of the car are, including options etc.

Would appreciate your help...thanks :)

If you subscribe to InControl Remote you can use the free Jaguar Remote app to start, lock and unlock the car. You can check the MY of your car by the 10th digit of the VIN - G for MY16, H for MY17, J for MY18. CarPlay functionality wasn't available until late MY18 when the 8" screen with physical buttons (4 each side) was changed to a 10" one with soft buttons.

Regarding the vehicle spec, if you find a kindly dealer and give them your VIN they can give you a copy of the TOPIx Vehicle Summary, though it's just a list of what's on your car, not what was standard or an option. If that doesn't work you could send the VIN to Jaguar Customer Service ([email protected]) and ask them for the Summary.

And welcome to the forum! :)

I inquired about a Jag not at a Jag dealer and they were still able to contact a Jag dealer and got the Topix car build sheet for me. OR as above just get the VIN and ask someone yourself, but surely if they want to make the sale the dealer can do it.

So picked the car up this morning...wow!! :)

Registered the InControl app etc. The current subscription runs until 2024. There's no remote start feature that I can find inn the app, although it does let me lock/unlock and see the status. Is this something you need an extra subscription for?

Ta,
J.

You can fit CarPlay with this..

Yeah thanks, I'm already engaged on that one :)

Go to remote on the app and press and hold the fan symbol. This will start the engine.

That's on the V2 app, the V1 app just requires you to left=swipe the first page.

So...thanks both ... so neither of the apps show me a starter. But the help in the v2 app (I presume this is the one where the first screen zooms in on a map to show the car's position) says that it needs the premium subscription to do it, under the Remote Climate screen. Does that sound right?

Yeah, InControl Remote Premium is the one. I also have InControl Secure (tracker) and InControl Protect (SOS Emergency Call, etc.). They all expire annually, whereas "InControl Pro Services" seems to last for about 10 years, based on the expiry date of mine.

reading the vin number,

vin descr.pdf

There must be an older VIN code as well as my VIN starts SAJA so it would appear by this key, I didn't buy an F Type!

Also, there are differences on many sections, mine has a 6 as a coupe and not a 1 and position 7 is a number, not a letter.

My VIN is recognised on OSH and by DVLA so it is correct.

That'll be the one! Yeah, my car is Aug 2016 registered, and the normal subscription runs out in Aug 2024. I will try and add the premium bit.

What does Secure and Protect do for you? Is that option dependent?

I think Secure is the tracker and stolen vehicle reporting system and Protect gives you the "call emergency services if you have a crash" facility and the SOS call button on the right side of the overhead console (left side for Jaguar Assistance if you have that (I don't any more).

SAJA denotes Jaguar Rest of World. Interestingly mine is SAJD, which is supposedly Jaguar USA! The next digit denotes F-Type stuff according to info I've gleaned:

A - AWD (All markets except NAS (USA & Canada))
B - RWD (All markets except NAS (USA & Canada))
D - Standard (SP0) RWD
F - (R-Dynamic (RD0) RWD) - (400 Sport (LE7 RWD))
K - Standard (SP0) AWD
8 - (R-Dynamic (RD0) RWD) - (400 Sport (LE7 AWD))
5 - R (SR1) AWD
Z - SVR (VR1) AWD

6 and 7 denote body type - 1A for coupe, 5A for convertible.

So I'm at a loss...I'd love to pay them for the Premium Subscription. Their website tells me to login to my account, which I did. But nowhere does it have a link to buy a subscription. The FAQs seem to indicate that you can only renew what was optioned when the car was new...not add more functions. So as much as I'd like to, at the moment, I'm not sure that I can. I'm going to call their customer experience centre tomorrow...my customer experience was rather poor today when I was told their opening hours stop at 15:30!!
