Urgent. BVRLA mileage

Hi, I'm in a major panic here.

Just paid for a vehicle but have found a mileage issue, from BVRLA on an auto trader report I ordered simply because I was sat bored dreaming of picking the car up.

34k dropped on first MOT to 9000

Stupid question next. Are these reports 100% accurate? Have I been misled? What do I do?

I do trust the seller. I thought implicitly but am now in a blind panic having made payment already.

Have you asked the seller for an explanation?

My father has a 2005 Bentley that shows a “change of colour” on reports. In fact it was Bentley registering the car incorrectly and it was rectified within 3 weeks of first delivery. But it looks odd on reports.

Has it had a new engine? Or dash/computer etc?

Is the discrepancy reflected in the price?

Trade purchase yeah. Highly respected. I'm paying premium for low mileage. (Have paid). I'm hoping it's estimated lease mileage corrected at first MOT. But am most aware of resale value more than anything

Luckily you have rights. If they can’t answer the query to your satisfaction they should fully refund you.

Fully agree. Simply put the dealer on alert that if they do not provide a full explanation supported by documentation then you will be returning the car. Remember otherwise you'll never sell it on without a big hit..

Meanwhile contact the report provider for information on their mileage sources.

I purchased an XF several years ago as 1 prior owner. When I registered it I was astounded that at 2 years old the V5C showed it had 5 prior owners. Dealer had lied. Bit of push and shove and a full refund was provided and a new XF was sourced elsewhere.

Thanks all, thus far

So the numbers i have from the autitrader check, are thus

I did an HPI check also, but this hasnt flagged

9 Jun 2025 MOT 17,111

Just a thought have you checked the mileage online for MOTs and even the Jaguar service website, if needs be get the servicing job cards for each time it's been in the garage and get the actual mileage that way.
Looks like finger trouble to me by the operator but you are right you need proof that's what it is.

BVRLA members have to provide an auditable mileage records. So there could be service records, telematics, dated odometer records etc to prove or disprove any mileage data shown.

Looks like an input error, but I’d certainly take up Tim’s offer to check it out.
He’s definitely well placed to do so :)

All done and all good. Didn't appear on hpi check, auto trader has picked up that mileage from before the car had even been built. We are good .

Thanks all for replies.

Just in case anyone sees a similar thing in future, this seems to be down to AutoTrader's 'check' pulling through mileage data from a car which, in 2018, had the same private registration which was later on the F-Type, which hadn't been built at the date of that high reading. AutoTrader are notoriously unwilling to admit to any imperfections, and certainly don't address them, so we might see this again. We recommend MotorCheck, who have put huge effort into building the best provenance check possible, and whose checks on this car showed no issues. Fingers crossed that L82theparty enjoys his new car - maybe it'll be quick enough to get him there on time!
