Tyre Sealant Goop- Pros and Cons

Having just experienced a low tyre pressure warning I continued to drive slowly - max 45 mph with the pressure falling rapidly.
When I was able to park the car safely it was quickly apparent that there was nothing I could do to reinflate the tyre with the Jaguar Compressor so had to be taken to the nearest garage on a low loader and a new tyre fitted.
It occurred to me that for the future one might put "Tyre Sealant Goop" in the tyre to prevent leaks.
Has anyone tried this and what are the pros and cons.

I don't like the gunk kits so, and a lot of tyre repair places don't as well, they will charge by the hour to clean it off after its use, or give you the wheel to do it yourself.

I use a mushroom plug kit as I do on my motorcycles, called stop and go, tyre plugger.

Normal tyre sealant is not intended for long term use. It will harden and stick it different parts of the wheel / tyre or fragment into pieces. Result will at best be an unbalanced wheel and no ability to seal any puncture.
There are specialists powders that can be out in and used in the off-road community but have poor results and in any event are not performance tyres.

Incidentally I also use plug kits for off road, but whilst not specifically illegal in the event of an accident or spotted by police can result in prosecution. They are perfect to get to a repair shop or safe place. My opinion is they are not safe outside emergency use

I've only used tyre sealant once back in 2012 ish when abroad in Ireland.

Unfortunately when I got to the garage they said it was a repairable puncture but not now its filled with tyre junk and been ran potentially on low pressure it's a new tyre.

I did get a warning note from garage during recent health check that my tyre junk is just out of date however I would never consider using it anyway. The sales young lady trying to sell me £55 of stuff I will never use, when asked, have you ever actually used it, proclaimed YES on multiple occasions all without issues, of which I asked on which cars and what happened when you got to a garage..... and then we quickly moved onto other things oddly. I love the sales patter!

I’ve used the sealant after a puncture on a different car (same gunk though) and it lasted just over 3 miles before deflating again and had to get recovered. Tyre was then a write-off and couldn’t be repaired and rim took ages to clean out. I would be very reluctant to use the stuff again. I have bought a space saver which I leave in my garage, if I ever get a puncture and am within a reasonable distance to my house I will ask someone to bring it to me.
