Tyre pressures

Hi,

I noticed the tyre pressures were all out on my used car on collection. They are supposed to be 36 psi. I used what I thought was an accurate gauge to make all tyres 36psi. However, the tyre monitor when cold on the car says they are all 39/40. So my question is do I make them 36 psi via the guage or TPMS on the car? Which one is right?

You cannot tell. The best way forward is to go to a local tyre depot and get the pressures checked there where hopefully, their tyre pressure kit will be checked by weights and measures. That said I wouldnt worry about 1 or 2 lbs - the actual pressures will vary that much between standing overnight and running down the motorway

Mine on collection were 30/31/35/40 I always take my accurate hand guage on collection having had a previous failure after collection.
Showed the salesman who took the car back to the workshop for rectification.
Rechecked and one was still at 40.... unbelievable.
Filled in the Synters aftersales survey with a list of complaints and ticked the please call me as I was not satisfied, but surprisingly never heard anything.
