Tornado alloy rivets

Anyone with these 20 inch alloys ever had the rivets powder coated? Cannot find any examples online

I've always kept the rivets the OEM colour whenever having the wheels refurbed

But this time round I'm tempted to get them powder coated in gloss black to match the rest of the alloys. Decisions decisions
 
I guess it's personal preference. They normally get removed when the wheels get coated anyway, no reason they couldn't get removed and have the coating stripped in the future. The company that did my wheels were very anti painting the bolts though, they actually asked before I took the car to them incase someone had painted them before.
 
Do they simply unscrew? If so, perhaps you can buy some black bolts in the same size? Might be a more durable solution.

Yes they do unscrew. Although there is a risk that the heads will shear off, which is usually mentioned by the refurbishers. Mine came out Ok, when I had my Tornado's powder coated in anthracite gloss.

There's a post on here, somewhere, where this happened.
And someone bought new stainless bolts of that specific size. (Don't forget the thread locking compound)

I'm only having the left side refurbed and will likely get them painted over now. Can make a direct comparison to the unpainted right side and regret or rejoice at my choice :D

Will have to probably remove them myself at some stage to get them painted and hope they don't snap
 
Just a point to note having removed and refitted these bolts in the past on a Z4 that once powder coated in situ they are very difficult to remove.
As they are decorative you don't need threadlock, but if you do choose to use some then use one that just adds friction, not locks the bolt.
if you want remove them the easiest way is a good quality 12 star bit used with a T bar so you apply even torque. Put penetrating oil in a few days before. If you sheer one it's a machine shop job to drill out, although with care it can be done DIY.

For anyone wondering. This is what it looks like with black bolts. Ignore the dirty alloys. Looked much better when freshly refurbed. Much prefer it personally. Have removed the other side and spray painted them myself, but yet to reinstall them

Haha yes it's on the list once the torrential rain stops. I blame the alloy people for not putting them back properly :P
