Hi all, I have a noise coming from the front left of my f-type 2.0 rwd.
The noise is a single "clack" when steering at low speeds in both side.
After car makes the noise, if I put it in reverse and keep the same steering angle I hear the noise again, if I put it in first gear and go forward I hear the noise again. I'm going crazy...
that's why I'm asking if anyone has access to Topix so I can check if there is any document to solve this problem.
You would do me a great favor. I'm also willing to pay. I've done several tests but still haven't figured it out.

Thank you

You're better off googling or searching these forums. Everytime anything goes wrong with anything my theory is I'm not the first and somebody will have already experienced it, posted it, and solved it..

Regards
Rob

Have you tried taking off the front wheel and looking for anything in the vicinity that might be the culprit?

@relaxitscool
I've been searching for a solution to this problem on Google for about 2 years. Seems like no one has it on f-type. I also made a post in the technical section but no one has the same problem as me.

@scm
I did a lot of tests... I removed the wheel and disassemble the upper arm, which is perfect. I disassemble the stub axle and bearing, regreased it and reassembled it, It looks perfect.
I changed the lower steering head, but it's not that either.
I changed the left stabilizer bar link, but it's not that either.
I put new brake pads on.
I thought it was the left shock absorber, I temporarily reversed the shock absorbers, but the noise always comes from the left, so it's not the shock absorber causing the problem.
I lay down on the engine to hear the noise better while a friend was driving the car: the noise comes from the upper part of the chassis and if I put my hand it can be heard near the cross depicted next to the shock absorber attachment. But I don't understand what it is.
The car has 30.000 KM, no accidents and everything is apparently new.

In dealer Jaguar they told me that I have to leave it to them and that they have to work on it for several hours to diagnose the problem...

It seems you have already spent a of time and money on the issue. Perhaps it is time to let Jaguar have a look themselves.

Did you check the rubber boot on the left steering arm ? It could well be the steel tightening buckle which is fouling the fixed plastic shield. This rubber boot should be pushed towards the engine to clear the extension operation completely.
Hope this helps...

@simpleR
Yes, I'm thinking about it, even though it bothers me that they tell me they don't know what it is and that they have to disassemble all car.
I expect Jaguar to know what it is, I won't be the first to have this problem. That's why I wanted to take a look at Topix before I brought it to him.

@ralphr1780
sorry friend but i don't understand where is this rubber boot you refer.
do you mean the head attached to the axle of steering gear box?
Did you refer to number 6 of this image?

Just a thought - did you look around at the US forum? There's usually much more info about issues over there.

@MajorTom
I also wrote on the .com forum but they couldn't help me there either...I'll try to ask for access to Topix if no one here can help me.

@ralphr1780
I can check and see if that plastic bangs somewhere, but my noise resonates in the chassis at the top where there is + circled. Do you think it can propagate to the top of the frame?
do you think a noise coming from the 17 could travel up to the top of the chassis?

I suspect that the problem may be excessive play of the n. 2, but the strange thing is that the noise can be heard if I go back and forward with the steering wheel turned at the same point.

Some folk on the US forum found that the bracing struts in the engine bay weren't tightened as much as they could (should?) have been and tightening the Torx bolts on them fixed some weird noises. Worth checking?
