Now for those under 45 who own an F-Type this does not apply to you but for us older ones (especially the guys) it may. I see a lot of people in their late 50's or 60's in F-Types and wonder how it looks to others. Is it like an old man wearing leather pants (trousers), or an wealthy retired business man with a 25 year old girl friend. Are there just some combinations that look wrong.

As I looked at a man quite a few years older than myself driving an identical F-Type at the dealership the other day, I must say it occurred to me that the car is prettier than the person driving it most of the time and before I get to that point, I should let it go.

Just the thoughts of a guy slowly loosing his mind :D

(tongue in cheek comment)

It's a Jaag, so perfectly OK. If Daniel Craig as 007 can look good in an Aston at nearly 50, he'd look just right in an F type too. Both designed by Ian Callum I think (who I also believe drives an F type). This is where the influence of British taste and elegance comes in.

Sounds like your having a brief late life crisis moment. Remember worrying is for younger people. But nooooo to leather trousers , unless maybe you're Theresa May - she obviously doesn't have such worries - maybe she has an F type on the quiet.

But I'm now worrying about going out in my car along with my daughter (24) :o . Wait a minute I don't look wealthy, more like Ken Dodd according to my wife, so that's OK then  .

Maybe we are worrying unnecessarily. I'll hazard a guess that it;s always been the case with Jaguar sports / GT owners going back to the XJ-S days.
Doing a straw poll of 7% of us forum members the average age is 51.4 years old. Although I have a good ten years on that by the way !!
I think the real issue would be an average age comparison against say 911 owners, Aston owners and the like.
I suspect 911 would be lower - but maybe Aston higher.
Maybe it's directly proportional to disposable income?
I guess in summary it's "normal" to see old guys in expensive sports / GT cars but most likely "normal" to see much younger guys in much cheaper sports / GT's
Sleep easy - One life - Live it.............

lol - great comments Bri and Mike. You are right about the mid-life crisis moment. I'll get that under control again, but my wife does call my F-Type 'The Other Woman' as it gets looked after so well and will still look good in 10 years time. At least it's cheaper than a divorce :D

ps. liking this new website styling too.

The way I look at it is:
It's a luxury sports car. It's not a racing car or a track car or a supercar, where the fitness and quick reactions (best suited for a younger person) would be required to use it for what it is intended to do.
As we get older it's only right that after we have worked hard to make a home and support a family, and or business etc.. that we should be allowed to treat ourselves if we can afford to do so......Life is too short to get hooked up on the negative stereo type thinking.
I don't conscientiously look at me owning and driving the car as an image for myself. I actually just enjoy driving it on certain trips. I like the look and feel of it. It gives me pleasure...It's a treat to drive it on certain trips.
I don't look at my image in the shop window as I drive through town. That's because I don't like driving in town....There are no mirrors out in the open countryside or highway, and that's where the real enjoyment is to be had imho.

I don't think you 'older ones' as you put it have anything to be concerned about - if anything, I would say it is the older age group that most people would expect to see in a car like this. As Jagster said, most people work hard throughout their lives and then (if they can) treat themselves to a sports/GT car around 50, when their younglings are no longer dependents. So I think when people see someone my age driving a car like this it is more of a shock from the norm than the other way around - I have had a couple times when people have asked me if its my fathers car... to which I politely knock them down a few pegs.

But yes, as a younger F-Type owner I do drive around like I'm James Bond (who I believe is cast to be about 35-40?), lapping up the attention it brings and feeling special that I work hard to afford a car like this at the age I am.

As said above, leave the worrying about matching our outfit to the car to us, and enjoy the car because you love it regardless of what anyone else may think.

You can't win. My daughter who has just reached 25 as and as a qualified corporate lawyer asked and paid to be added to my F-Type insurance. She now drives the F type and is worried she's too young and if people wonder how she got the money to drive it. Ironically she can afford one on her own if she chose to
