To cover or not to cover

Hi all

I've been reading through a number of different topics on this forum around covers for the F-type. Mines outside on a drive and is used regularly, but I'm finding myself constantly cleaning her (especially with the Sahara sand rain we've been getting where I am) due to weather and also foxes walking all over her - I kid you not - spotted on CCTV the other night!

So my question is: if I'm regularly using it (a couple of times a week) should I have a cover, or should I just keep up the cleaning routine. I had her ceramic coated when I bought her 6 months ago, so there's protection there.

If the answer is to cover, any suggestions on the best one to go for.

Thanks all in advance

Cheers

If you're using it several times a week, you're more likely to damage the paint putting a cover on and off that often. And you'd have to clean it as often anyway .... ;)

I would just keep cleaning it. Apart from the faff taking it on and off and possibly scratching the paint even more, if it's under a cover you'll not be able to admire it out the window 😉

Another benefit of a cover is 'out of sight out of mind' (of thieves).

Mine is garaged but used regularly and the road grime and rain mean I am cleaning regularly anyway, not sure a cover will help you that much except for the foxes.

Hi Rimbo,
I use a cover but I don't think it would work for you. The car and the cover need to be clean before fitting so you'll be constantly cleaning your car if you use it during the week. If you use it a lot, I guess you already have the mindset that mileage will be higher than the general pool of cars out there and so for re-sale, condition and price will be lower. On this basis, use it frequently and offset the resale against the enjoyment value.

I understand your concern though, it's amazing how much lands on a car just sitting on a drive so I use a cover (JLR one) and this also helps stop any possible damage as posties, delivery drives, leaflet droppers and my kids/dogs walk past it.

Could you rig up a lean-to or similar?

I think there was a post on here from someone who had a framed cover which was like a pram hood and hence didn't touch the car. Expensive from what I can remember, but a good idea.

Or it's a precious vehicle that's worth stealing? :(

I see your point. But if it's not covered they are going to see what the car is anyway. If it is covered they might not even notice it.

I'm sure it is very effective, but it would make your drive look like a crime scene.

When not using it, you could probably rent that out to trendy campers this summer by telling them it's based on a traditional abysinnian yurt.
